You can be in the right place at the right time, but if you’re in the wrong frame of mind or have the wrong attitude, it's almost certain you’ll miss your opportunity. Don’t let them slip away by holding on to negative thoughts or behaviors. Keep an open mind & pave your own way!
When you look at the big picture, the importance of any game is relatively small. Pretty amazing that we can use the competitions that come through sports as practice for overcoming the real challenges that will be thrown at us in life. Sports teaches so much more than athletics!
Your coaches are watching you every day. This off-season will tell them a lot about who’s committed to improving/growing/working hard & who’s only interested when it’s convenient for them. There’re no secrets. You can & will only be great at what you’re willing to sacrifice for!
Mentally tough people aren’t more talented. Just more consistent. Even those with the most mental toughness aren’t immune to adversity. Everybody experiences adversity, but they learn to embrace criticism & be flexible, adaptable. Train your mind to work for you, not against you!
Have you ever noticed that you’re constantly having a mental conversation with yourself? All day long you’re talking to yourself about what’s going on in your life. I hope you’re having the right talk. It should always be positive & encouraging. Your mindset predicts performance!
Playing college athletics on any level is life-changing. It’s YOUR path, YOUR journey. Don’t ever compare yourself to anyone else or anyone else’s choices. Very few athletes get the chance to play at all. Be proud of the rare opportunity you’ve been given & make the most of it!
Your athletic career is most likely temporary; your character lasts a lifetime. The person you are is far more important than the player you are! What are your habits/routines? Are you grateful, humble, honest. Do you care for others? Be someone people respect on & off the court!
What is holding you back from taking that next step? Is it fear? Is it worry of what people will think? Do you wonder if you have what it takes? You will never know unless you do step out of the harbor (comfort zone). At least if you do, you will fail trying vs. fail watching.
