"No matter what subject you #teach, as you plan your instruction, ask yourself these questions:
1. What do you want your #students to know? Why is that important?
2. Can they learn this information another way? How?"

Absolutely. Driver’s Test allows retakes.
So does SAT.
ACT.
GRE.
LSAT.
The Bar.
And the MCAT (up to 7x).
If your argument is “the real world” doesn’t allow retests, that’s a half dozen counterexamples that say otherwise.
Require check-ins before retesting. Then go for it.
Teaching can be awkward and challenging when you’re 23 and your students are 18. Incorporating social emotional learning can help young teachers use age to their advantage. https://t.co/nKMMrdeuJb
I had a young teacher today who could have busted a kid. But she showed grace. She knew he just needed “time out” to get himself together. She was compassionate. Her goal wasn’t to get him in trouble, but to preserve her class while giving him the space he needed.

Please remember that all those interactions you have with your students outside of the lesson really matter. The smiles... the eye contact... the jokes... the fist bumps... the silliness...they’re all important. They remind kids that they matter. Those moments can mean the world.
Everyday before students leave, I tell them to be the “shining stars I know they are”, with a motivational or positive quote. I want them to remember to be a “shining star”, even after I am gone in a few weeks.
UPDATE: Charges against the student have been DROPPED!
Officer Angel Marrero LIED on his report claiming the student shoved him.
He now claims his LIE was a mistake.
“I genuinely believed...I had been shoved --any discrepancy was accidental.”
#wledst2019 I will be implementing an Anti-Biased framework during my inquiry project (in my future classroom too). If you want more information on what this is or could look like in your class, here's a video from @GaryRGrayJr: https://t.co/tDBV4yD00f
Maintaining a safe environment will be important for me as I begin my Showcase/Inquiry unit on matters of social injustice. #wledst2019 How do you all know/ensure your classroom is a safe place?
It's not to late to incorporate cultural lessons/activities/information showing the perspectives/histories/cultures of Black speakers of your target language! #wledst2019
