Paul didn’t say:
“Women shall be saved through autonomy.”
“Through college.”
“Through abortion.”
“Through a career.”
“Through rejecting marriage and motherhood.”
Nope.
He said:
“She will be saved through childbearing." — 1 Timothy 2:15
@pepesvidal@WesleyLHuff Jew was the covenant name for God’s people under the Old Covenant. In the New Covenant, that name is fulfilled and transformed into “Christian,” as God often does with names. The issue with Judeo-Christian is that it pretends Judaism is a friend of Christ. Judaism hates Christ.
My 15-year-old son almost got stuck in Salt Lake City by himself overnight due to a flight cancellation, and they didn’t have a flight to CVG the following day. The only person I really knew in SLC was @Eric_Conn. I didn’t want my son living in an airport by himself for 36 hours. So, I asked if Eric could pick him up and host him for the evening, and without any hesitation he said, “Sure, I’ve got an extra room.” It was a relief. I was thankful for Eric stepping up at a moment's notice. I hope God allows me to return the kindness in the future. In the end, we were able to get Caed on a redeye back home, and it wasn’t necessary.
I truly think a lot of Christians I know, whether to my right or left or who differ in this way or that, would have had my back in this situation, and vice versa. I can think of more than a few people who others would consider "on the fringe" and "boomer-ish normies." It’s why I have become more reluctant to burn things down online.
I don’t want to diminish the significance of some of the issues currently being debated. Many of them need to be sussed out. But acts of kindness like this do affect my willingness to be very patient and my drive to pray for and work toward greater unity of Christians in the truth of God’s Word.
The Hebrews ceased to exist when they were transformed into Israelites (The Exodus). The Israelites ceased to exist when they were transformed into Jews (The Return from Exile). And the Jews ceased to exist when they were transformed into Christians (The New Covenant).
Just as dispensationalists often commit a false equivocation when speaking about “the Jews,” the Roman Catholic Church does something similar with the term “Catholic."
@ostrachan Christians are people of truth. That means it is sinful to deny real atrocities, but it is also sinful to inflate, mythologize, or weaponize history. Truth is not preserved by denial or exaggeration. Honest questioning is not lying; it’s how truth is tested.
The fact that actions are not the grounds for our justification does not follow that any action is okay. Thabiti is stupid wrong.
Political support is a Biblical ethical issue; just read about Jehoiada (2 Kings 11:4-20)
It’s okay because the 1st clause, being a Christian, is not dependent on the 2nd clause, voting behavior.
Even if the 2nd clause constitutes a grievous action that ought not be done, it may be something to be repented or lamented but it’s still not grounds for justification.
In some ways, the plague of dust filling Egypt depicts God’s people in Christ filling and conquering an ungodly world. (Sermon note on Exodus 8:16-19).
We must not desire the fruit of Christ apart from Christ's Lordship as Christless conservatism does. The relief we get apart from obeying Christ will turn into more death. There is no bargaining with God. We either listen to His voice, or we harden our hearts to His word and die.
The American culture needs to hear loud and clear, “Continue in your rebellious idolatry and dig yourself a grave, or turn to Christ and find resurrection life.” (Sermon note on Exodus 7:14-25).
Set your sights on generational progress.
One of my favorite mottos—which a long time ago I put into a Sauvé family crest that I hope to have made some day—is the Latin "festina lente," which means “Make haste slowly.”
One of the most common errors of the competent, of the reformer, of the one who sees the problems of our age and intends to do better—an error that will frustrate you to no end, by the way—is the get-everything-done-today error.
You can’t. The work is too great, and though you have a corner of the work with your name on it, that corner is small in the scheme of things, even for the greatest among us. So make haste slowly. Know that you will hand off the work to your sons and daughters. Make peace with that, and then do your part with the time given you.
Don’t be discouraged when it takes a long time to do anything, when there are setbacks, frustrations, and failures. I remember years ago realizing that we needed to start a school, that God had tasked us with that work in this generation—and then seeing it take 2–3 more years than I thought it would to get to that first day of school.
Some setbacks will be not 2–3 years, but 2–3 decades, sometimes even 2–3 generations. God is sovereign. Trust him, do your daily work with the strength of his daily bread, and be content.
The West is in a state of existential crisis & behaving like a demoniac - only the gospel of Christ & his Lordship can deliver us:
“Hell is empty and all the demons are here” - Shakespeare, Tempest, 1610
We need principled men who desire to please God, not men who want to make people happy. "They were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God." - John 12:42,43
Trump says that it’s a “terrible thing” to sign a heartbeat abortion bill such as the ones passed in FL, IA, OH, GA etc.
Where are the alleged pro-life groups/leaders on this?
"Church, you were called as God’s servants by the grace of Jesus Christ to show forth His glory. Do not settle for less." (Sermon notes on Exodus 6:10-30)
2. "Instead of newness of life and a future, they lack also a present and live in blind revolt. Men who cannot make a future destroy even their present and despise their past." - R. J. Rushdoony, Revolt Against Maturity, pg. 289
1. "If technology and economics determined the future, then the twentieth century should be the happiest and most peaceful of eras rather than one bent on committing suicide. But men, having forsaken Christ, have also forsaken the future."
