{I was completely zoned out on some Turkish version of Law & Order when I heard footsteps outside.
I muted the TV.
Silence.
...Nope.
Definitely a person.
I peeked through the corner of the curtain. A woman, late twenties, maybe.
Walking the yard like she was measuring it.

I was ready for war.
Even if some ruined, foolish part of me still loved them.

So I sat with all of it.
The fury.
The grief.
The humiliation.
The love.
I sharpened my knife until the edge gleamed under the low light. Slow. Careful. Methodical. •••
My first stop was the train station.
I retrieved my emergency bag from one of the lockers... a change of clothes, documents, and enough cash to disappear comfortably.
It was my rainy-day fund.
And lately, it had been raining poor decisions.
