Jewish community in the Labour Party ๐น
Promoted by Ella Rose-Jacobs on behalf of the Jewish Labour Movement at 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX
Maj.Gen.(res.): @YairGolan1 , leader of the Democrats:
โThe public spoke & fired the Netanyahu government. We received a historic opportunity to establish a true government of change in Israel and we have no intention of giving up.
We represent a tremendous public, that fought in the streets for 4 years, that registered with the party and went out to the field to persuade. We are going to do everything to ensure that such a government is established.
We are ready to work with all our partners, to bridge the gaps and take responsibility.
The public has spoken. Now it's our turn to do the work.โ
Netanyahu lost.
I know how to count to 120. 65 is more than 55. That's how Israeli democracy works. Period.
The picture of reality must teach us one resounding lesson: we have no future here if we don't stop being afraid. And if we don't stop with the racism. We must no longer accept Netanyahu's racist division between Jewish and Arab votes. The voice of an Israeli citizen voting in Taybeh is worth exactly as much as the voice of an Israeli citizen voting in Givat Shmuel. No less. Not approximately. Exactly.
Anyone who tries to erase the voices of Arab citizens is surrendering to Netanyahu and giving up on Israel.
And now let's talk about Zionism. In Netanyahu's bloc 16 Knesset members come from non-Zionist ultra-orthodox parties, who promote mass draft evasion while our children are fighting and dying. If Netanyahu insists on counting only a Zionist majority, let him first subtract from his own bloc the 16 Knesset members from the non-Zionist Haredi parties. They won't preach to us about Zionism. The Change bloc has a Zionist majority: 49 against 39. The Change bloc has an Israeli majority: 65 against 55. We have a majority. We have responsibility. And we have an opportunity to form a government of change in partnership with Israel's Arab citizens. A government that will serve all Israeli citizens. Now it takes courage. It takes leadership. It takes stopping the fear and starting to act. A government of change now!
Today, Israelis head to the polls. We wish @YairGolan1 and the @DemocratsIL every success.
After years of division and conflict under Netanyahu, we hope a new Government will emerge, committed to peace, equality and democracy for all.
The rise in antisemitism presents a challenge for all of us.
Schools and colleges should be places where young people can discuss difficult issues, challenge prejudice and learn to debate respectfully.
These conversations can be complex, but we want to encourage debate. That's why we're backing teachers and school leaders with training, guidance and practical resources, giving them the confidence to lead these discussions well.
Schools will not face this challenge alone.
In this generational moment we have a real opportunity to challenge antisemitism, build understanding and create more inclusive school communities.
An important piece from Children and Families Minister @JoshMacAlister on why schools adopting the IHRA definition matters in tackling antisemitism.
He explains how the definition helps schools recognise and address antisemitism.

We saw this in the Labour Party when antisemitism was endemic - the belief that politics is controlled by powerful Jewish interests.
Now this is being shared by the Leader of the Green Party.
51% of Jewish teachers - many of them NEU members - experienced antisemitism in school in the past year.
Fixing this starts with defining the problem. IHRA spotlights the insidious and often subtle nature of antisemitism. It doesn't stifle criticism of the government of Israel.
โIf education isnโt the answer, what is?โ
Antisemitism has no place in our schools and colleges.
Sir David Bellโs report sets out what needs to change, informed by the experiences of Jewish communities and those working in education.

Antisemitism has no place in our schools, colleges or society.
We accept all 27 recommendations from Sir David Bellโs review. We will equip schools and colleges to identify and challenge antisemitism, strengthen Holocaust education and help every young person learn in safety.
This statement shows the NEUโs inability to grasp the problem of antisemitism in our schools.
Is it any wonder Jewish teachers and students have lost faith in the NEU?
Tackling antisemitism should be a priority to all schools - not just those with Jewish students.
Sir David Bell's review makes suggestions to help every school and college prevent antisemitism and support education professionals navigate difficult conversations confidently.
@LucyMPowell met with education leaders and those in the Jewish community to discuss how the government will respond to the review.

Statement from LGA Labour๐น
'Every resident of every faith, race, gender and background must be able to expect that their local cllr will treat them with respect.
Antisemitism and racism have no place in our town halls' ๐น
Antisemitism is shamefully rising across the globe, and it's going to take all of us to tackle it.
Yesterday I met leaders from the J7 to discuss this unique hatred targeting Jewish communities and to learn from each other's experiences and approaches.
By listening, learning and sharing what works, we can strengthen our response to antisemitism and help ensure Jewish people in our communities can live safely and confidently.
At PMQs, Prime Minister @andyburnham told the House of Commons that he condemns the Green Partyโs โZionism is Racismโ motion as antisemitic.
Burnham also said that the Labour Party cannot support a partnership with a party that holds an antisemitic position.
