I joined students, alumni, parents, school management, and friends of Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga in Lugazi to celebrate an incredible milestone—83 years of academic excellence and transformative impact.

The students were surprised when I told them I rarely encounter my fellow secondary school OBs and OGs in the boardrooms or professional spaces I frequent due to the rural setting of the schools I studied in. I was simply trying to illustrate the power of social capital that Namagunga provides—a foundation that opens doors, creates opportunities, and shapes leaders.

For 83 years, Namagunga has set the gold standard in academic performance, leadership, discipline, and values. It was the first school in Africa to produce a female Vice President, a testament to its commitment to empowering girls to lead and serve. I congratulate the school management for equipping generations of girls with knowledge, discipline, moral grounding, and values—a legacy that is uniquely Namagunga’s. As we celebrate this milestone, I urged the school to offer scholarships to bright girls from underprivileged families across Uganda in line with Sr. Kevina’s vision when she founded the school in 1942. @msmcnamagunga
