We were at Abbey Road Studios recording music for the game when @erin_yvette, @JudyAliceLee, and @AshBarrett belted this out!
A lot of modern fighting games feel overdesigned. You can feel the developer's hand everywhere. Systems layered on systems, constant nudges pushing you how you're supposed to play.
They're so busy trying to be spectator friendly eSports that they end up worse to play and watch.
"We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood, Fear the old blood"
.
Bloodborne will forever remain one, if not my favorite game and the game that changed my entire art trajectory. Super tough piece but I had a lot of fun working on this!
"Why haven't fighting games died yet?"
I wrote about the unique strengths of the fighting game genre that have allowed fighting games to survive multiple generations of evolution intact, and why you didn't fall in love with a product. Warning: This is a long one.
MIDNIGHT IN BABYLON, the first episode of AZATHOTH BLUES, is now out on all major podcast platforms, including Spotify. A dark journey into paranoia, conspiracy, murder & ritual. How do you fight back in a world that seems increasingly insane?
"Modern game patch culture, simplified execution, and playing old games forever"
This one is about my enduring love of MvC2 and CvS2, and how execution checks keep a game fresh and new to me decades in.

I think there's also a perception issue that you HAVE to learn mechanical stuff or you aren't playing the game.
But the fun part about fighting games is you can invest your time learning whatever aspects of it you like. There are so many skills you can develop/focus on.
Nicolas Cage says "protect yourselves from AI."
“There is another world that is also disturbing me, and it’s happening right now around all of us — the new AI world. I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us. That is a dead end if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or her performance even a little bit, an inch will eventually become a mile and all integrity, purity and truth of art will be replaced by financial interests only. We can’t let that happen. The job of all art in my view, film performance included, is to hold a mirror to the external and internal stories of the human condition through the very human thoughtful and emotional process of recreation. A robot can’t do that. If we let robots do that, it will lack all heart and eventually lose edge and turn to mush. There will be no human response to life as we know it. It will be life as robots tell us to know it. I say, protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions.”

I always found this story from @TheKeits profound. Not just for video game development but for overall life's problems as well.
