#Extinction
It will soon be time to say goodbye.
This is the smallest primate in the world—Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur.
This unique species is on the edge of extinction due to uncontrolled slash & burn of their Madagascan forest.
The IUCN warns they could be gone by 2030.
Not many words to adequately sum up today! A spring male Pallas’s Reed Bunting was the perfect reminder of what a magic place Fair Isle is, and of the brilliant people I get to share these birds with.
5th for Britain
3rd(!) for @FI_Obs
What do you think @BBCSpringwatch! An absolutely amazing Jay's nest, monitored for the BTO's #NestRecordScheme. The scheme only gets around 5 nest records per year, so this will provide well needed information.
Labour are backtracking on a plan to help save swifts by blocking a new rule that would make developers put a £35 nest brick in every new home. They think it'll help win them votes - we need to show it would do the opposite. Sign the petition https://t.co/34AO0PTKRu
Two more cuckoos ringed this week, with several others calling nearby.
These are truly remarkable birds and it's great to share our experiences with the rangers looking after Cannock Chase. Working closely with the rangers is having is showing real benefits us and for wildlife
Ultimately, we human beings depend on nature, so we must preserve our close relations with her. Sometimes we seem to think that technology will solve our problems and allow us to do whatever we like. This Earth Day let’s remember that the reality is we have to protect our world.
Every elephant we rescue, every orphan we raise, and every wild life we safeguard depends on one thing: a habitat to call home.
This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the wild spaces that sustain Kenya’s wildlife — from the open plains of Tsavo to the lush forests of Kibwezi and the Mau. These ecosystems are vital not just for elephants, rhinos, and giraffes, but for biodiversity, climate stability, and local communities.
Through habitat protection, anti-poaching patrols, water boreholes, reforestation, and community outreach, we’re protecting these landscapes from mounting threats. But we don’t do this alone — your support is what makes this work possible.
By standing with us, you help protect the earth that gives life to so many.

This is Kshamenk, Argentina’s last captive orca. He’s been in these concrete tanks at Mundo Marino since 1992. He hasn’t seen another orca since 2000. Orcas are social animals and live with their families in the wild. Solitary confinement is akin to torture. Free Kshamenk!
Who'd want to be a fly? 😳
Since Twitter became X, it's been impossible to grow your account anymore. In fact I've lost 7000 followers in that time.
If you like birds, I post 5 or 6 brand new pics (that I've taken) every day, & have been doing so for 10 years! 😊🐦❤️
For any newbies, this is classic osprey mantling behaviour.
When you see this happening on the Live Streaming, it means only ONE thing - there is an intruder osprey close by.
A brief half hour check of 17 nestboxes @nationaltrust Fountains Abbey this week revealed the first clutches for 2025. Unsurprisingly, Blue and Great Tits but what will the other boxes reveal? @_BTO@EDRInging
Swift bricks don’t block development, provide nesting habitat for many birds & are fundamental to the survival of several & will stop new 🏡 being sterile of urban birds. A true win win for our Government & our Prime Minster’s intentions to build with nature in mind.
