Thank you Charlie Kirk.
This evening I left my home and was driving to Jim's Place in downtown Coldwater. As I often do, I was listening to a YouTube video during the drive. It was a video of Charlie Kirk debating with students at UC San Diego recently. I have watched a lot of Charlie's videos but this one impressed me because one of the questions came from a High School student who really did not have a grasp on even the basics of what he was asking. Charlie went out of his way to be kind to the student, explaining the facts without being condescending or unkind. That was his nature and one of the secrets to his success at influencing young people. He kindly and politely told them the truth.
As I pulled into downtown Coldwater, the video ended and the next one in the queue was a report on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. It was the most shocking emotional jolt I have experienced since 9/11. Charlie Kirk was the most shining example of what we need. He traveled around our country having civil discussions with people, and always asked people who disagreed with him to come to the front of the line.
Charlie was a truth seeker. He often used to comment about the people who would be at his events that were protesting off to the side. He would say “Why don’t you come over and debate me?” But those people did not want to have a conversation, they simply wanted to rant and protest.
When people were presenting their opinions to him, no matter how extreme and radical, he always listened carefully to what they had to say and let them complete their thoughts before responding, and then kindly gave them his response, almost always with a smile on his face.
The assassination of this man is perhaps the most evil event we have seen in our country since 9/11. All he ever wanted to do is to discuss the issues that divide us, and look for common ground that we could tread together to improve our social and political condition.
One of the great risks from something like this tragedy is that people will try to respond in kind, with anger and violence. I pray that those of us with conservative values will not do that. I think we should try to act like Charlie did and courageously state the truth as we know it without fear. Charlie brought massive numbers of young people to Christianity, or convinced them to return to it. He enlightened huge numbers of young people with an understanding of the value of patriotic challenging of ideas, and the fundamentals of a conservative philosophy. He considered family to be the very most important core value of our society.
Charlie taught peace, love and kindness. His every waking moment was spent seeking truth. He is one of the most courageous people I have ever been aware of. His death is a tragedy, but my hope is that it will lead to people opening up fearlessly to state what they believe in. I saw a woman interviewed on the news that was a friend of his. She was a black woman wearing a pink sweater with a beautiful silver cross necklace. She said it was Charlie who gave her the courage to wear that cross and openly express her belief in Christ. We live in a world where people have been afraid to express their most important truth, because of the judgementalism of woke elitists infected with aberrant rationalism.
I think this is what we need to do: Openly express the truth.
For me, it is that I am a Christian.
There are only two sexes, male and female, and no-one can change that fact.
I know that I am not a racist, and there is no such thing as institutional racism in the United States. I know that DEI is a tremendously destructive, racist practice.
I believe that children thrive when they are in an intact family unit with a father in the home, and that our several decades old entitlement system has led to the destruction of the American family unit.
I believe that firearms are mainly a tool that makes us all safer. And that the misuse of them arises from mental illness and the destruction of the nuclear family.
I believe that abortion is wrong.
I believe that people lose their dignity when government takes away their self-reliance.
I believe that criminals should suffer consequences for their bad behavior.
I think capitalism has done more good for more people than any other system in the history of the world. When it fails it is almost always because of government intervention and corruption.
I believe that the elimination of slavery in Western countries was accomplished through adoption of Christian values, which view every human as having individual value, and every human as being worthy of redemption. If you look at a world map there is almost a perfect correlation between Christian Western countries and the lack of slavery. It still exists in over 20 African countries.
I know that our government, and our constitution, were firmly grounded in Christian principles.
I believe that America is the best place in the history of the world for people of all races and religions to thrive.
I vow to no longer hide my beliefs and values out of fear of reprisal from atheistic radicals who have no moral compass to guide them.
Solzhenitsyn said, “The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world.”
Charlie Kirk died for saying obvious truths and presenting the facts that back up those truths. Our response to his death should be to emulate him and to stop allowing people to promote obvious lies. The truth and being able to speak it is, by far, the most important value we have. It is the reason the first amendment to our constitution comes first.
