The MAV is thrilled to partner with @UniMelb & @networkedcities on a pilot program for councillors & LG professionals to provide a deeper understanding of how disinformation impacts organisations and the best practice skills needed to assess, counter, and build resilience to it.
Extreme weather including storms, strong winds and lightning has resulted in widespread power outages across the State, with hundreds of power poles and lines down across the State, and some areas facing extended power outages with significant damage to the electricity network.
The wild weather resulted in the physical collapse of six transmission towers near Anakie on Tuesday afternoon. Concurrently, the Loy Yang A power station tripped and was disconnected from the grid, leading to the Australian Energy Market Operator enacting load shedding to keep the power system secure. This was cancelled after a short period and all 90,000 customers impacted by load shedding have had their power restored.
As of 9pm on Tuesday, more than 470,000 customers remain off power across the State, down from the day’s peak outages of more than 530,000.
The Loy Yang A power station is currently in the process of being reconnected to the grid.
In areas with localised power outages impacted by the storm, network crews continue to endure challenging weather conditions, fallen trees and access issues to repair damaged powerlines and critical energy infrastructure.
Crews are actively working to restore power to these impacted areas. However, given the extent of the widespread damage, it may take days if not weeks to restore electricity to all of those impacted.
To ensure your safety, please do not approach fallen powerlines and call the faults and emergency number for your electricity distribution company on your electricity bill.
Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves and timelines for restoration of power become clear.
Great to have many new and re-elected mayors in at MAV headquarters today, for our MAV Mayoral Welcome and Induction.
The MAV is here to support Victoria's Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councillors fulfill their commitment to serve our communities.
