@publicaddress I once tried explaining it to an American. He couldn’t get his head around wicket (dismissal), wicket (pitch), wicket (stump) all being the same word but different meanings. He also struggled with the concept of a modern sport stopping for a tea break
@HistoryAotearoa@ZealandEarly It’s one of those questions that always catches people out at quiz nights. What is NZ’s most western city? Everyone always says New Plymouth but as you rightly point out Invercargill
@pineynz@SuperRugby We took our daughter, great family atmosphere. Should play all NZ derbies during the day. NZ vs Aussie I understand for tv reasons the need to play at night, but these games you will get decent crowds if they are in the day
@alicesoapbox Also interesting that there are not enough teams in the men’s Super Rugby Aupiki. As a result it seems that the men’s Matatū are playing an inter squad practice game tonight in Melbourne
@alicesoapbox Indeed, well my wife who I met in Christchurch constantly told me that she was in same high school team in New Plymouth as Canterbury legend Kendra Cocksedge. Imagine if I’d had a role model like that to look up to
Incredibly this is the first tweet about the flooding from this local Auckland MP. I thought Brown was slow off the mark but this tone deaf response really takes the cake
The Government forcing every Auckland school to close for a week because 20 schools are flood damaged is dictatorial, impractical, and infuriating. With everything parents are facing, this last minute decision is the last thing they need... 1/2
1. Because natural disasters are fricken hilarious 2. Wellington had an earthquake and Christchurch before that. What they also had were mayors who understood that their cities desperately needed to hear from them in a time of distress and needed them to show up
Not only was Prime Minister @jacindaardern a calm and assured presence for New Zealanders, she was also a role model for young women and girls like my daughter. She never met her but thanks to @traceymclellan Harper will know how wonderful she was. Thank you Prime Minister.
