#JohnColtrane#CurtisFuller & #LeeMorgan at the rehearsal prior to Coltrane's "Blue Train" session. The powerful 3-horn frontline, explosive solos & brilliant ensemble work with Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers & Philly Joe Jones made it a classic for the ages: https://t.co/Md8Jv7AKbr
Trombonist and composer Curtis Fuller, a pivotal figure on his instrument since the '50s and beloved mentor, died last week at 86. https://t.co/KKkGxfsLRL
Saddened to hear that the great trombonist, educator & NEA Jazz Master #CurtisFuller has passed away aged 86. In addition to his own stellar Blue Note albums Fuller was an elevating presence on landmarks like John Coltrane "Blue Train" & Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers "Mosaic."
One of jazz's all-time great trombonists, Curtis Fuller, passed yesterday at 86. As Fred Bouchard noted in this 1997 JT review, J.J. Johnson had the chops "but God gave Curtis Fuller a big chunk of the soul." Look for a full obituary on our website soon. https://t.co/iqcRcIEgEp
R.I.P. Curtis Fuller, the trombone great who played with legends like Bud Powell, Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, played a hand in some early Strata-East releases, and recorded many albums with his own bands for Blue Note, Savoy, Impulse! and others.
The late singer/songwriter and poet will take his place in the Hall as an "early influencer" of hip-hop. #GilScottHeron#RockAndRollHallOfFame https://t.co/JO3a9LLE6H

#albumoftheday Jim Rotondi's "Blues for Brother Ray" - 2009.
This album is a tribute to Rotondi's old mentor, Ray Charles. Jim fondly recalls his time playing with "Mr. C" as the formative experience of his early career.
