@RiverThames Any idea what this is? Seen floating in the Thames yesterday opposite Tate modern. Spotted by my boy. Estimate about 5/6ft long

@terrychristian It’s EXACTLY like 1930s Germany mate. Terrifying times - tragic and where are leaders, voices and cultural figures fighting against the tide?? Orwellian, dystopian horrors are rising and I wish I knew how to effectively fight back

I want to find the kid in this shot, give him (and what's left of his family), my flat and make sure he has a full and peaceful life here in the UK.. How the fuck is this happening in 2024. https://t.co/dC4DSAB1HA

@campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK Two of the most satisfying hours of political discussion with a thoroughly decent man. I was a boy when he was PM & I’ve been centre left all my life, but disagreeing agreeably is how we’re going to sort the current mess out https://t.co/ubCxggi2wP

“It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. People are trapped. People have nowhere to go.”

Léo Cans, head of Médecins Sans Frontières’ mission for Palestine, says that there is no way to evacuate hospitals in northern Gaza and he cannot tell his staff to abandon their patients.

Lewis Hine's work extended beyond the canning industry. He also documented the hardships faced by children working in the cotton mills of the South. Some were as young as five, enduring exposure to perilous machinery and harmful dust particles. The extensive hours and strenuous labor frequently resulted in severe health issues, such as respiratory diseases and physical deformities.

Hine's photographs also exposed the perilous conditions within coal mines, where child labor was prevalent. Boys as young as eight were engaged as "breaker boys," responsible for separating coal from slate. This work was not only physically demanding but also extremely hazardous, leading to frequent accidents and injuries.

Alongside his photographs, Hine often incorporated direct quotes from the children he captured, providing poignant insights into their lives. These quotes unveiled the stark reality of their daily challenges, aspirations, and their strength in the face of adversity. This combination of powerful imagery and personal accounts made Hine's work a compelling tool for advocating child labor reform.

Gotta say I’m in complete agreement. One can support response against Hamas for the horrific act of terrorism. Bits what’s happening to innocent women and children is something else entirely.

NEW: @UNHumanRights NY Office Director @CraigMokhiber resigns in protest over timidity of key parts of #UN system on issues pertaining to Palestinian Human Rights. In letter to @volker_turk he says: "This is a text-book case of genocide. The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase, toward the expedited destruction of the last remnants of indigenous Palestinian life in #Palestine."

[Jim Stokes @JimStokesDesign]

Disgraceful. Excellent reporting from @mattfrei as usual.

Tanks are rolling into Gaza, patients are stuck in hospitals & the death toll keeps rising.

Yet the UK Govt refused to back a UN resolution calling for a humanitarian truce, when 120 other countries did so.

How many more deaths will it take before this Govt acts?

Disgraceful. Tragic what our country is becoming. Shows the real moral compass of these utter cowards

Here is Britain’s
new right - climate sceptical, immigration obsessed, anti human right, attacking elites. In US + Europe this has already become anti-LGBTQ and sympathetic to authoritarian states. When will conservatives finally say “not in my name”?!
