@MasseyHerbarium Yams of E. Asia include Dioscorea polystachya, Chinese yam, and D. japonica, Japanese yam (found at Oasis in Blacksburg along with D. alata, purple yam). I went down this rabbit hole of Asian yams because of a short story, Yam Gruel, published in 1916, by Ryunosuke Akutagawa.

@virginia_tech VT adapted under the umbrella of vaccination. No shut downs or on-line classes. Hospitalizations and death minimal but around us work and homes altered by death and illness. We can lift the vaccine mandate with spring but not now-many students will need full vaccination in Feb.
