A lot of worry in parenting groups of young people with long covid/ME.
These are kids who are isolated at home and connecting using SoMe is their lifeline to some sense of normality.
We have this situation at home. And I have had my eldest come to me in the past with things that are unsuitable to see and we talk about it.
What doesn’t work is banning. Kids are tech genii who will run rings around their parents and govt!
Since the music industry as we knew it has virtually collapsed, social media has become the backbone of how kids get into new artists. My wee lassie loves a band called Katseye. She found them on YouTube. They are completely built around social media. They do video content constantly. How can I, as a big music fan, turn round to my daughter and say “that’s it pal, no more Katseye. You’ve been banned from YouTube”? The world has moved on. Kids lives are intertwined with social media. Regulate it, but a ban is wrong. The government is saying they are giving children their childhood back. How can a 63 year old man tell kids what their childhood should look like? Childhood isn’t fixed. It’s different for each generation. Social media is part of their lives now. And as my wee gran used to say, “weans are fly” They’ll find a way round this ban anyway, so better to educate them than try and stop them.
Parents in the 1890s: “put that book 📕 down and go play outside.”
Parents in the 1940s: “turn that radio 📻 off and go play outside.”
Parents in the 1980s: “turn that TV 📺 off and go play outside.”
Parents in the 1990s: “turn that Nintendo 🎮 off and go play outside.”
Parents in the 2000s: “turn that computer 💻 off and go play outside.”
Parents in the 2020s: “put your phone 📱 away and go play outside.”
None of this is new.
We’ve just never had a govt think it can ban people from new technologies while simultaneously removing our ability to anonymously read or watch whatever we want.
@davepl1968@joeroganhq Doesn't matter. Those diseases matter. You've drawn an arbitrary line. If there is a net benefit to society to provide treatments for something free at the point of use, or at least subsidised, then it's worth it.
@DPJHodges The criticism over Klopps lack of titles isn't fair. Liverpool finished second several times with very high points totals that would easily have guaranteed a runaway title if not for Pep
@batcountry1980 Totally spot on. There may not be able 'singles' but there's a lot of here to love. EIIRP, HTDC, idioteque, Morning bell (the best version), motion picture soundtrack. They are on top form
