Being the breadwinner is hard, especially when the people you’re working so hard for only remember you when they need money.
Sometimes, I feel like I’m no longer seen as a family member but as someone they can always depend on financially. They don’t ask if I’m tired, if I’m struggling, or if I still have enough for myself. They just ask, and somehow, I’m always expected to provide.
I love my family, and I want to help them. But I’m also human. I get exhausted. I have dreams, responsibilities, and problems of my own. Being the breadwinner doesn’t mean I have unlimited money, unlimited strength, or that I should carry everyone’s burden alone.
I’m tired of feeling guilty whenever I can’t give. I’m tired of being treated like saying “I don’t have enough” means I don’t care. I’m tired of always being the strong one when, deep inside, I also need someone to ask me, “Are you okay?”
I’m not posting this for attention or to make anyone look bad. I just need to let this pain out. Because sometimes, the person who provides the most is also the person silently struggling the most.
I love my family, but I also hope they understand that I have limits. I’m a family member—not a bank, not an ATM, and not someone who should sacrifice everything just to keep everyone else comfortable.
Being a breadwinner is a blessing, but it can also be a heavy responsibility when you’re carrying it all alone.
