A large vacant lot in AVondale will be turned into a massive rental housing complex after a proposal that’s been in the works for over a year received City Council approval Wednesday. https://t.co/SP8KaraLpp
The Tesla Cybercab was built from the ground up as a purpose-built robotaxi.
The seat height is engineered to align with standard wheelchair seat height for better accessibility.
As you can see, there is tons of leg room. It’s a very comfortable place to be. I guarantee almost everyone will prefer a ride in this over a human driven Uber or even a Waymo.
This car will change everything. IMO, it’s the iPhone moment for automobiles.
But with ~ 25,000 available ninth grade “seats” in other public high schools, many of which are nearby and have available capacity, why no consideration for ceasing entry grade enrollment at some of these 30 high schools, many of which struggle to enroll 50 incoming 9th graders?
One way to look at it: of ~100 public HS’s in Chi the 30 lowest enrolled have avg enrollment of 232 students and have combined enrollment of 5,800. No one in their right mind should ever suggest force transferring so many HS students to other HS’s.
@ChalkandChange Big cities contemplating school closures need to understand the big differences between closing/consolidating schools vs. entry grade enrollment cessation, both in terms of capex/opex but also disruption avoidance
This piece gets a lot right, some things wrong, and unintentionally omits many interesting and significant nuances re: consolidation of public schools. One day I’ll write an essay on the role student assignment plays in closing schools.
With 58 percent of CPS buildings underutilized, George Shay explains the only way for CPS to move forward is consolidation and closures, not additional funding.

@ChalkandChange The issues and questions raised in this piece are profoundly significant and largely point to what I’m suggesting the Contrarian post is missing. It’s really difficult (but necessary) to understand the capex/opex and school choice elements of any school closing proposals…

“What does the transition look like?” (from human-driven vehicles to driverless vehicles) is not an unreasonable question.
Same question applies to State of IL’s massive fleet of gasoline-powered vehicles to BEV’s. Same question for IL’s municipalities and Cook County

@PekalaLaw@mkos66@RLSandack@vjeannek at the very least we should stop calling it what it’s clearly not—affordable housing —and start calling it what it truly is—subsidized housing
