Happy Angel birthday to Honoree John Chapman. John was born on July 14, 1965. Due to his heroic actions in the Battle of Takur Ghar, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
On October 17, 1971, Commander Lauren R. Everett made his final flight.🕊️
Assigned to Reconnaissance Attack Squadron Five (RVAH-5), Commander Everett was flying a North American RA-5C Vigilante over the Gulf of Tonkin on a routine training mission.
Originally designed as a nuclear strike aircraft, the RA-5C had become one of the U.S. Navy's premier reconnaissance platforms, flying high-speed photographic and electronic intelligence missions over some of the most heavily defended areas of North Vietnam.
During the training flight, the aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin, claiming the lives of both crewmen—Commander Lauren R. Everett and Lieutenant Commander Paul A. Stokes.
Even away from enemy fire, naval aviation remained an unforgiving profession. Every launch from an aircraft carrier and every training sortie demanded precision, discipline, and acceptance of extraordinary risk.
Today we remember Commander Lauren R. Everett and Lieutenant Commander Paul A. Stokes, who gave their lives in service to their country.

This is Warrick Dunn, who became the head of his family at 18 and later turned that loss into more than 250 homes for single mothers.
On January 7, 1993, two days after his eighteenth birthday, his mother, Baton Rouge police Cpl. Betty Smothers, was sh*t and k*lled in an ambush while working an off-duty security job, escorting a store manager to make a night bank deposit.
Suddenly the oldest of six with no parent, Dunn raised his five younger siblings and used his mother's life insurance to buy them a home so the family would not be split apart.
He still reached Florida State University, became the first Seminole with three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and was drafted 12th overall by Tampa Bay in 1997.
That rookie year, to honor his mother's dream of homeownership, he founded Homes for the Holidays for single-parent families.
As of 2026, his charity has furnished more than 250 move-in-ready homes for single mothers and their children.

"My son Ryan was 24. He came home from Afghanistan in a flag-draped coffin on a Tuesday. Max was his dog. Ryan trained him from a puppy. They were inseparable for four years. We couldn't tell Max. I don't know how you tell a dog. I don't know if you can. All I know is that Max lay against Ryan's bedroom door every single night for eleven days. Not inside the room. Against the door. Like he was keeping it for him. Like he was making sure nobody closed it all the way."
On the twelfth day I sat down on the hallway floor beside him.
I don't know why the twelfth day.
I had walked past him eleven times.
The twelfth time my legs just stopped.
I sat down on the floor and I put my hand on his back and I said Ryan's name out loud for the first time since the men in dress uniforms
came to my door.
Max lifted his head.
He looked at me.
He put his head in my lap.
We sat there on the hallway floor for a long time.
Neither of us went into the room.
Neither of us was ready.
Maybe neither of us will ever be ready.
That's okay.
The door is still not closed all the way.
Some people you just keep a place for.
Ryan.
Max is still at your door.
He's going to be at your door.
We both are.
Drop a ❤️ for Ryan.
Share this for every Gold Star family tonight.
You are not carrying this alone.

Nineteen years ago today, our @NYPD71Pct brother, P.O. Russel Timoshenko, made the ultimate sacrifice after he was ambushed, shot and fatally wounded five days earlier when he and his partner stopped three dangerous individuals driving a stolen vehicle in Brooklyn. As Officer Timoshenko's final act in life, he confronted danger on behalf of the city he loved. Though it cost him his life, NYC police officers will always honor and remember his heroic example. #FidelisAdMortem
