Darren Fletcher is conducting another episode of the Darren Fletcher Podcast during the Belgium vs Spain match. I know many people love him as a broadcaster, but the constant narrative chit chat while ignoring the action on the pitch is tough for me to listen to. #WorldCup
I say it every year but this Phillies broadcast led by Tom McCarthy is a joke. We've spent 2 full half innings tonight bloviating about nonsense completed unrelated to the game. The only difference between tonight and every other is that tonight guests were in the booth.
Interesting half. After the first 10 minutes, Japan really settled down and put on a clinical defensive performance. They frustrated Brazil into lot of bad passes and firing desperation balls from 25 yards out, creating easy saves. #WorldCup
Peak cowardice by Norway to rest players with a chance to win the group. They can make whatever excuse they want for not trying to win the game, but that is not sport. #WorldCup
This Fox broadcast for Argentina vs Austria is a tough listen. They are spending 80% of the time talking about Messi and the other 20% talking about general storylines. There is almost no announcing of the action on the pitch.
The story will be Spain's inability to finish in this 0-0 draw, but Cape Verde defended their tails off. What a tremendous collective effort by them. #WorldCup
#Phillies fans/media are all over the map. Just 5 days ago WIP said the Phillies are a World Series contender. Now, the Phillies Post Game Live crew is basically saying that this is who they are and this is the season. It's not football, but the fans and media react that way.
I really don't understand the new age Sixers fans (Ex. Eskin/Giglio) who said that this series doesn't matter because they beat Boston and got out of Round 1. This team has wasted another year with veteran players and max contracts with nothing to show for it besides hope (VJ).
In listening to WIP today, it's remarkable to me that Sixers fans (including the "hosts") have already deemed the season a success. How can it be a success with George and Embiid late in their careers with limited payroll flexibility? I don't get it.
I know he has his following and those folks really like him, but I find everything Pat McAfee does including this draft announcement to be manufactured. His performance during this NFL Draft is an awful WWE heel promo. It's completely obnoxious and flat.
I am trying to watch Face the Nation on CBS. Is Margaret Brennan a host or an activist? What is the point in having Mike Turner on if all she wants to do is interrupt and talk him over him to hammer her own agenda?
Geno Auriemma's act tonight was embarrassing. He has had the most talent in the sport for 30 years, lost by 14, didn't lose by 14 due to the referees, and was dropping profanity during his in-game interview. He should be held to a higher standard of sportsmanship.
I realize it's an old school thought, but it's very odd to me how a Catholic school like Villanova can reconcile having a coach like Kevin Willard who throws his staff under the bus (joking or not), curses constantly, and always seems angry.
I am a little surprised at the victory lap the Phillies fans are doing over the Jesus Luzardo signing. He has never been durable over his entire career. Last year was only the second time in his career (Debuted in 2019) where he made 30 starts. It feels like a huge risk to me.
I tuned in to WIP this morning to hear sports conversation. Instead, I heard James Seltzer screaming and then singing Ace of Base followed by a discussion on Ace of Base. I understand it's a little slow in sports, but the Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies all played yesterday.
@Jeff_McLane@MikeSilver This was very insightful. You guys did a good job of covering the Jalen component though I do wonder if the organizational structure component (Jeff/Howie influence/directing Nick; "Nick's offense" that he doesn't call) is at least 50% of it.
