🚨 BREAKING: Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old Sudanese man charged with attempted murder, remanded in custody as court heard victim lost left eye in north Belfast attack

Hadi Alodid, 30, was remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with attempted murder over Monday's knife attack, in which victim Stephen Ogilvie lost his left eye.

Alodid refused legal representation and made no reply to the charges, which were put to him through an Arabic interpreter as he appeared via video link.

The 30-year-old, of Duncairn Avenue in Belfast, is charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie on Monday, making threats to kill an NHS radiographer on the same day, and possessing a knife.

Police have revealed details of Alodid's immigration status and how he travelled to the UK.

He entered Northern Ireland across the Irish border in February 2023 after flying from Paris to Dublin.

The suspect claimed asylum on arrival and, in September 2023, was granted leave to remain in the UK until 2028.

He is next due to appear in court in four weeks' time.
