It’s worth stepping back and analyzing how well punishment has been working. Because it hasn’t been working very well. The fear of punishment is not as good a motivator as unconditional love.
A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still. In order to win any argument, you necessarily have to make the other person wrong. And that’s only good for breeding resentment.
Even Alan Watts spoke to the evil acts of the do-gooders by saying: “Kindly let me help you or you will drown, said the monkey to the fish as he placed him safely up the tree”.
The nature of evil?
This is one of the most fundamental aspects of our earthly education.
In the same way that shadows can’t exist without light, evil cannot exist without the light of good. Evil is, therefore, a shadow of ignorance cast in light of knowledge.
This is why all evil acts are done under the guise of virtue. The devil is a trickster, as they say. If the devil came out with terror and pitchforks, people would run. Therefore deception is necessary.
Take for example, anger. How does being angry hurt the other person?… It doesn’t. Not one bit. But it’s like poison to YOUR system. It quite literally creates disease in the body. And if you forgive, you alleviate yourself of the root cause.
Here’s the thing about #forgiveness… It’s not about the other person. It’s always been about you. You don’t forgive someone because they deserves it. You forgive someone because you deserve it. It’s 100% a process that allows you to lighten your load.
You can have peace in yourself or peace with the world. But you can’t have both. To align with the way the world is and move with it, you will have to sacrifice a part of yourself. And to achieve deep peace within yourself is to be immovable by the world.
We want peace, so that we can all have a piece. It’s what most all of us a striving for. Peace of mind, peace of heart, peace in our environment, peace in our relationships… We want peace so that we can enjoy the peacefulness.
In this way, you can shoot for the stars while maintaining all the things you cherish. Your sense of peace, integrity, optimism, joy, love, and all the rest. Because your pursuits do not require these types of sacrifices. They never have.
There are ways to want something, and to work towards something, while at the same time being completely ok if things don’t work out. You may even plan ahead and know exactly what you’ll do and feel if it doesn’t work out.
The magical thing here is that the more you focus on solutions and ask for what you want, the more you actually get what you want. And conversely, the more you focus on the problem, the more problems you create and the less likely it is that you end up getting what you want.
If you’re focusing on what’s wrong, your words will probably speak to the thing you don’t want. If you’re focused on solutions, you words will probably speak to what you want.
