@naiivememe It seems I misunderstood and forgot to mention other factors. Fuel consumption and weight is higher in the gentleman's case.

And the extra money for the "handlers" likely does not go to them. So I do see flaws in the airline's logic. Thank you to those with actual responses.

@Dos_A_ @naiivememe Indeed fuel consumption is a factor. I did forget to mention this in my response. The weight in the cargo hold adds up. Weight and balance is definitely a limitation since luggage in the back hold has a significantly higher moment.
