@Bot10exists Seems like a lot of the criticisms with both reviews lie in the political statements being made, and to that I can't really offer any rebuttal. I'm no political science major and I'm not gonna pretend I am. Regardless, I appreciate your willingness to have a real conversation.
@Bot10exists Tbh I wish I knew more about that but I don't, especially cuz he's not exactly praising Obama in his music. I can't really think of a song or statement from him where he claims Obama to be some political savior or something.
@Bot10exists I think I see more validity in your criticism with DAMN because as much of that album also sees Kendrick really looking inwards, it does sometimes stray from its concept to indulge in some pop cuts that don't really add anything to the narrative.
@Bot10exists Part of why I took so much issue with your take is the "gleeful" part. A lot of TPAB is Kendrick agonizing over his survivors guilt and trying to cope with the fact that he's become wildly successful and can't spread that success to the community he came from.
@Thesoulfulride@postjaydenn It's a difference between not listening to rap and HATING rap. I don't listen to a lot of rock, but I have a ton of respect for it, if never say I hate rock. A mf says they HATE rap? Nah there's definitely something going on there
@Bot10exists But ykw, let me bite. You seem to be someone who prides themselves on knowing what "good" conscious rap is, so give me an example of a good conscious rap album and how that differs from these two Kendrick albums.
@Bot10exists You're open to an opinion, by "bad take" I don't mean objectively wrong. To me the take reads like you did not actually engage with the music and understand it. Nobody who actually listened to TPAB would think Kendrick is a gleeful cog in the machine he's raging against.
@L0vePlut0@stevenxgrant I mean if anything that's a testament to his old work. His music for majority of career was SO good that people can fr just forget or dismiss the fact that was spazzin out about Hitler not even a year ago
@Not_Leksa Ngl reincarnated was never a favorite of mine. Huge respect to it cuz it is a good song but it's not one of my favorite storytelling cuts from Kendrick. Glad to see somebody agrees w that cuz generally everybody loves that song
@MARSAYLAH_ It's moreso cuz it's just more expensive to buy albums in that way than to pay a cheap monthly fee for every song ever made. Artists at the top who play by the industry rules couldn't care less about bandcamp bc they know most people won't go there
@elaruuian I'm honestly so confused at why people are so upset at this. Besides it being redundant cuz he's already said this before (around the time this interview was recorded anyway), what exactly did he say that you disagree with?
@nondox@maniacmgm To each their own, I just wouldn't ever call him "anime rapslop" given most of his subject matter is fairly personal and void of nerdy topics when the songs require that. I personally like the way he uses his voice too, it feels authentic and true to him.
@Tatoo94189341@maniacmgm If it works it works. Personally I wasn't a huge fan when I heard it at first, early into my exploration of the genre. Only when I came back to it later after hearing way more rappers was I able to appreciate what TPAB was doing
@Tatoo94189341@maniacmgm Its honestly not that good as an intro to the genre. It is one of if not the best rap album ever made but for somebody who doesn't know anything about rap I think the nuance of it just gets lost. A better classic album I'd say might be like a Illmatic, Graduation, or even GKMC
