When an emergency happens, pets rely on their owners to take care of them. National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day, held annually on May 8, is a reminder that it's important to have emergency plans in place.

Pet emergency kits should include:
• Food, water, and medications
• Familiar items to make pets feel comfortable
• Sanitation items
• Travel supplies
• Important documents such as identification papers, medical records, emergency contacts, and a photo of your pet.

Extreme cold is forecast for tonight into Friday morning with wind chill values between -15°F to -25°F.
• Limit time outdoors, dress in warm layers, and cover exposed skin.
• Ensure household pipes are properly insulated to reduce risk of frozen or burst pipes.
• Test your smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms and follow recommended safety precautions when using space heaters, a fireplace, or a woodstove to heat your home.
