A new @UNDPAfrica report, From Catalytic Investment to Continental Impact, examines how flexible, strategic funding can help unlock #development results at a much larger scale.

It examines how catalytic resources were used during the 2022–2025 programme cycle to help unlock development results beyond the scale of the initial investment.

The report also examines the Regional Programme’s role in linking national priorities with regional and continental solutions, while supporting action that can translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

As development #finance comes under increasing pressure, the report makes the case for moving early, taking strategic risks and using flexible resources to unlock what comes next.

WOMEN IN POLITICS: IS REPRESENTATION ENOUGH?

Women’s political leadership is not a question of whether women can govern. It is a question of how much longer West Africa can afford to govern without fully including women in positions of political power.

With women holding just 18.4% of parliamentary seats across West Africa, the region continues to face a significant gender gap in political representation. Closing that gap is essential to building more inclusive governance and stronger democratic institutions.

At the launch of the inaugural cohort of the African Academy for Women in Political Leadership in #Kigali,🇷🇼, a major milestone in advancing women's leadership, democratic governance, and inclusive political participation across Africa, I underlined the imperative for AU member states, international and multilateral institutions to recognise, support and benefit fully from women’s leadership.

I stated that our responsibility is to build institutions where leadership is determined by competence, integrity, and public service, and where women are able not only to participate, but to shape decisions, influence policy, and transform governance.

I equally reaffirmed the @_AfricanUnion's commitment to building ethical, inclusive and accountable institutions that empower women as decision-makers across #Africa.

The Academy—developed by the @_AfricanUnion, the @AWLNetwork, @UNDPAfrica, and @ASG_Africa—runs from 3–7 August 2026, bringing together women leaders from across Africa and the Caribbean for an immersive journey in sisterhood, mentorship, and transformational leadership.
