Hope? Burnham’s speech today filled me with nothing but despair. What do I - and millions of others - have to look forward to when I/we retire? A dwindling in value state pension- one of the lowest in Europe. In a country where everything is incredibly expensive.
We can never forgive Burnham for today.
The Labour Party is using its 166 seat majority to attack the disabled and pensioners, and tell us we are a drain on the countries finances that could be better spent on an unnecessary war with Russia.
Just like the Tories.
@snowleopardess When people like Bombef Burnham blather on about “tough choices", why is it *always* code for hitting some of the poorest hardest? Where's the "tough choice" of a wealth tax on the super-rich? Why do shivering pensioners have to pay the price for "fixing the foundations"?
Do you notice that when commentators talk about the Triple Lock, they only mention by how much the State Pension has "gone up".
They never mention that it is STILL only £241 a week, which is the sole income that many pensioners have to live on.
Why aren't our political and media class comparing our state pension with other European countries?
It's almost like they're lying to us about its affordability.
How does it cost £8000 a month to provide one person with residential social care anyway, and what percentage of that is profit for private equity bosses?
No Farmers, No Food.
It is not an exaggeration. It is not a political slogan. It is a statement of dependence. We depend upon farmers whether we acknowledge it or not. The only question is whether we will recognise that dependence before circumstances force us to. The answer should be yes.
Protect the land. Support the farmer. Value the food. Feed the nation.
No Farmers, No Food.
The PM's plan to scrap the triple lock to reform social care displays a fundamental misunderstanding of the monetary system. We already have one of the lowest pensions in Western Europe and this attack on pensioners is wholly unnecessary. So much for his pledge to end 40 years of neoliberalism.

Can’t believe that there are actually people on here (mainly young Labour activists or at least people purporting to be young Labour activists) celebrating that Burnham is set to make pensioners poorer by scrapping the Triple Lock.
"Its the wrong place to get money from.. there are other places.. the richest 50 families are worth £500bn. Why are we talking about pensioners £12,500 & not talking about a wealth tax. Why is that?"
@UniteSharon says scrapping the triple lock would be the wrong thing to do
@johnmcdonnellMP Well done to @andyburnham for losing @UKLabour the next general election.
The UK has the lowest state pension in Europe, making UK pensioners in the UK worse off by doing away with the triple lock.
UK Pensioners won’t be voting Labour at the next general election.
Triple lock: From April 2030 pensions will continue to rise every year at least by prices, or 2.5% & it will hold its value "relative to earnings over time". There needs to be absolute honesty about what this means as breaking the link with earnings will cut pensions growth.
100%. Very well said. This man would have been a much better Labour PM for us than either Starmer or Burnham . But of course the Blairites were determined that he would never be PM and worked 24/7 to that end.
If they're telling us there is no money left in the fifth largest economy on earth, they're doing something wrong.
Tax wealth you bastards.
It's what we want, not cuts to our social security.
Diesel at a record 199p+ a litre. Red diesel hurting contractors and farmers just as autumn work ramps up. Filling the tank now costs a fortune and those costs are cutting into what are already paper thin margins.
Thames Water: Andy Burnham should nationalise this failed monopoly.
The entire water industry has failed. Must be nationalised.
It is similar story in the energy sector. Profiteering, low investment.
Privatisation has deepened cost of living crisis
