The #NCGA needs to scrap the whole property tax system and shift it into a less regressive tax model that doesn’t penalize rural land ownership and establishing roots in the community. Those who’ve been at the coast for generations are being forced out by unaffordable values. (3)
This is prime example of the complete disaster the NC property tax system is, Surf City has to scrap their tax rate proposals based off the re-eval in pender county bc the county suddenly decided to delay doing it because it’ll raise taxes too much. But, here’s the kicker… (1-3)
Part of the town is in Onslow co who is also doing a re-Val and their’s isn’t stopping. So the town will end up with a rate to account for Pender, but us in Onslow will get both a higher re-Val with no tax rate adjustment. The projected drop was 53 to 30 cents to be neutral. (2)
Third draft removes all livestock use limitations in any zone. It’s past time to put the agricultural issues to bed and get this critical update discussion back on tract- addressing the serious overdevelopment issue in the county. #Johnstoncounty#joco
County continues to receive valuable feedback on the draft UDO. Based on public input, proposed zoning limits on poultry & farm animals will be removed from the next draft, eliminating caps across all districts as the process moves forward. More info:➡️ https://t.co/L2YquLsNTW

It’s disappointing part of our soil and water board would hold a meeting on the UDO and not open it to all agricultural stakeholders. Particularly given the amount of misinformation surrounding the matter. #johnstoncounty#joco
