Every single one of the fathers/sons could presumably be treated likewise. Twenty generations therefore becomes over a million possible genealogies.

@DrFrancisYoung I suspect that the Bloody Mary business is to distinguish her from Mary Queen of Scots. We don't tend to say xxx the first if there's only been one (such as Anne.)
Plus an anti-Catholic bias, of course.

@DrFrancisYoung We get William the Conqueror (rather than William I) and I think, often William Rufus. A fun game is to get people to guess the number of the next King William (if he inherits, and keeps the name).

@wmarybeard There's another point here. Does spending this money even make one look good? The skin is tighter, but then it looks stretched. Make-up is just make-up. Wrinkles show all the times you've smiled. What's the point in looking younger than you are?

@KKriegeBlog @KofmanMichael I read somewhere that lace fell out of fashion around the time of the French Revolution because it was associated with aristocrats (in UK too). More likely to do with lace machines. Could automation be a factor? Pretty clothes fell in price so became for plebs.

Is the last sentence a frontial adverbial? (I didn't do those at school.) If so, why teach such a complex structure to young children? Usually something simpler is more powerful. And it tends to produce mistakes. The deer did not stop the car.
