Jo Lab in BME & Cardiology at Emory & GA Tech studies cardiovascular mechanobiology, therapeutics, & delivery to treat atherosclerosis & aortic valve disease.
Christian Park from our lab received the 2026 Suddath Award from the Georgia Tech IBB in recognition of his productivity and hard work. Congratulations, Christian!
Our research led by Christian Park, Kyung In Baek, and Claire (Ruei-Chun) Hung was just published in Cardiovascular Research. We identified and validated flow-induced reprogramming of endothelial cells (FIRE) under disturbed flow and hypercholesterolemia during atherogenesis.
Our project led by Michael Clark and Yerin Kim was recently published in ATVB! We describe the eNOS-dependent role of HEG1 on endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. Please check it out! https://t.co/Y0wSBb2gVo
Dr. Jo was the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Scientist Award from the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies for his dedication to the advancement of biomedical field! Hearty congratulations, Dr. Jo!
Huge congratulations to our PhD student Ruei-chun (Claire) Hung for receiving best poster presentation award at GRC Biomechanics in Vascular Biology and Disease 2025!
Please check out our recently published Nature Cardiovascular Research Comment titled, "A renaissance of cerebral cavernous malformation proteins in vascular physiology."
Jay Bowman-Kirigin (MD/PhD from Washington University in St. Louis) and Michael Clark (MD/PhD from University of Chicago, Internal Medicine Residency from Stanford University) decided to join our lab. Welcome to Jo Lab, Jay and Michael!
Our PhD student, Christian Park, is acknowledged as Top Basic Science Oral Presenter at Emory SOM Cardiology research day. His research focuses on emerging concept of Flow-Induced Reprogramming of Endothelial cells (FIRE) and atherosclerosis. Congratulations Christian!
We are thrilled that our HEG1 paper is published in Circulation, accompanied by a podcast and editorial! We show HEG1, a new flow-sensor, protects against atherosclerosis by regulating KLF2/4 in ECs.

In addition to BS/MS program, our undergraduate student Kiyoung Jeong has been accepted to PhD program at Georgia Tech/Emory University. Congratulations Kiyoung!
Ravi Tripathi Ph.D. and Jay Bowman-Kirigin M.D, Ph.D. joined Jo Lab.
Dr. Tripathi will focus on novel CEBP-b transcription factor and its roles in atherogenesis.
Welcome to Jo Lab!
Our predoctoral student, Christian Park, has been awarded with prestigious The Cardiovascular Biomechanics Graduate Training Grant (CBT@EmTech). The purpose of this program is to train next generation of academic leaders.
Congratulations Christian!
