Madrid have mastered the art of selling their academy products.

Yesterday I wrote about how Real Madrid have turned La Fábrica into one of the most sophisticated financial instruments in world football. Not just selling players, but selling them with clauses that keep Madrid in control long after the transfer is done. Twenty four hours later, Gonzalo García has joined Fulham for €40 million with a 30% sell-on clause and matching rights retained.

The timing could not have been more precise.

In the last three years alone, confirmed La Fábrica income is approximately €192 million in received fees. Nico Paz netted them €51 million in profit after they triggered a €9 million buy-back and immediately sold him back to Como for €60 million. Victor Muñoz generated €20 million through a 50% sell-on when Liverpool paid €40 million for him. Miguel Gutiérrez brought in €9 million the same way via Napoli. Mario Gila, Álvaro Rodríguez, Álex Jiménez, Fran García. The list keeps growing.

And on almost every single one of those deals, Madrid kept a clause. A buy-back, sell-on percentage or a right to match future offers. They are not just selling players. They are building a financial web around every academy graduate that leaves the club, ensuring that no matter where those players end up or how valuable they become, Madrid remain part of the transaction.

Gonzalo García is the latest thread in that web. Fulham get their player. Madrid get €40 million today and 30% of whatever Fulham eventually sell him for tomorrow.
