The worst best picture winner ever is pretty easily Everything Everywhere All at Once. An insufferable, obnoxious, incoherent film that critics pretended to love in order to seem cool or something.
Prediction markets let anyone bet on anything, from the World Cup to alien invasions.
INSTADOCS: THE PREDICTION GAMES investigates the explosive rise of global betting. Now on Netflix.
Phoenix, home to nearly 5 million people, has now endured its hottest night on record two days in a row. The temperature fell only to 97°F yesterday before soaring to 117°F, then dropped to just 97°F again this morning. Another high of 117°F is forecast today.
Nolan strips the gods out of The Odyssey entirely. Only goddesses show up, and then only as PTSD hallucinations. Nolan’s apologists will say that he did this because he was going for a more “grounded” film. Oh okay. So then why does Ancient Greece have the demographic makeup of Los Angeles circa 2026? Why is there a tiny little woman running around pretending to be a dude? Why is there an Asian guy delivering the line “we’re Greeks from Ithaca”? Grounded? Really? Grounded in what? The apologists are letting Nolan have his cake and eat it too, like always.
What makes a research question worth years of dedication? 💡
For Jin Peng, a PhD graduate from Peking University's School of Electronic and Computer Engineering and School of AI for Science, research has always been about solving real-world problems. His doctoral dissertation has been named one of Peking University's Outstanding PhD Dissertations of 2026.
As LLMs continue to grow in size and capability, so do their computational costs. Jin's research develops sparse activation methods that significantly reduce computational costs while maintaining model performance. His work has been published in more than 10 top journals and presented at major conferences, cited over 6000 times, and adopted in the deployment of domestic LLMs, including Meituan's LongCat.
Along the way, Jin came to see research as a way to connect technical questions with real-world needs. Transitioning from academia to industry, he hopes to help advance China's LLMs and computing ecosystem by turning research into real-world impact. “If I could sum up my biggest takeaway from my PhD,” he says, “it wouldn't be the papers I published or the awards I received. It would be learning how to find problems that are truly worth pursuing over the long term.”
