Census data on travel patterns of low-income Philadelphians, shows that less than 2.5% of all Philadelphians use rideshare to get to work each day, and that drops to 1% of Philadelphians earning below $50,000 rely on taxi or rideshare to get to work each day.
New York has a rideshare tax. Chicago has one. Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Baltimore do too—along with 50+ cities and municipalities nationwide. Why not Philadelphia? Our kids are worth it.
@jblumgart We’ve held 3 major news conferences, and we continue responding to press inquiries every day on this once in a decade storm and the recovery, including from your own newspaper. Our Clean and Green Director Carlton Williams is talking to the media every day.
🌿 With an enhanced focus on renewable energy sources, reducing emissions in our City, and planting more trees — we are striving every day to make a GREENER Philadelphia that we can all be proud of.

The new Reentry Center in Northeast Philadelphia stands as a testament to our commitment to supporting second chances — because our City believes in everyone’s ability to rebuild and reintegrate into our communities after incarceration.
It will be a symbol of hope, opportunity, and belief in the potential of EVERY person.
Together, @PhillyPrisons and the Office of Reentry Services are paving the way for brighter futures for those who have paid their debts and are ready to rebuild their lives and reach their fullest potential.

To meet the standard of travel safety our region deserves, I expect SEPTA leadership to do everything possible to implement the recommendations of both the NTSB and the Federal Railroad Administration.
This morning was personal. Today we unveiled a City of Philadelphia Historical Marker in honor of my mentor, my political mother, my everything—Marian B. Tasco.
How do you find words for someone who helped to shape your life? Marian saw promise in me when I was a young woman, hired me to serve alongside her in City Council, encouraged me to run for the Pennsylvania House, urged me to step up for the 9th Councilmanic District when she retired, and supported me every step of the way—even when I decided to run for Mayor of Philadelphia.
As I’ve always said, I stand on the shoulders of so many incredible women who paved the way — but no one ever paved the way for me more than Marian Tasco.
Today, we honor her legacy as a trailblazer, a kingmaker, and a fearless champion for Philadelphia.
Boss Lady, congratulations. This marker is only a fraction of the true impact you’ve left on our city.

Every voice matters, and every stakeholder will be at the table—because Philadelphians deserve nothing less.
Not everyone has the luxury of a car or the option to call an Uber. For many, reliable transit is the difference between getting to work, keeping medical appointments, or making sure our kids get to school on time.
I believe—wholeheartedly—that we can reach a resolution. But it’s going to take everyone, across party lines, working together with urgency and commitment.
We are not giving up. But I urge every Philadelphian: please make a plan now so you and your family are prepared if the time comes.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just politics—this is about people. And I will never stop fighting for you.
Philly, yes—there will be service cuts. But there will still be ways to get around.
It’s just going to take more patience and more planning. That’s why it’s imperative that every Philadelphian prepares now.

Strike is over. Negotiations were tough and tense at times. Mayor Parker sticks to her word and executes largest one-term pay increase for District Council 33 from any mayor in more than 3 decades. Union leader says he’s “unhappy” with deal. Trash pickup to resume today. @6abc
We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of one of our own this morning. Our officer, a dedicated veteran assigned to the Airport Unit, died after suffering a medical emergency. With decades of service, he served our city with honor. Please keep his family in your prayers.
