@thejackbeyer@garywfuller Only time in CORONA program history the large crosses would have made logical sense was in 1960-1961 with resolution approaching 40-feet. But the cameras got better very quickly... and fixed/mobile CORN targets were developed by 1964.
@thejackbeyer@garywfuller By 1966, KH-4A/4B had a resolution of around 6-ft. KH-7 Gambit had resolution as good, or better than this, and post 1966 KH-8 Gambit-3 had "less than a foot" resolution. Using extremely large crosses made no sense via optical physics.
@thejackbeyer@garywfuller By 1975, the USAF tested 25 aerial cameras per year over Casa Grande, including the Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS, later renamed Landsat) camera (which had not launched yet). Landsat had an 80-meter (262-foot) ground resolution.
