Wrestling is the best high school sport to be great at. It’s the largest network of current and former athletes and coaches in the state that truly care and encourage each other. It’s the most well attended NSAA championship in Nebraska. And being great at Wrestling will get you respect in business meetings and bar fights for the rest of your life. If your kid has what it takes, push them to wrestle.
Couple of my favorite Zach Bryan song quotes as we get ready for Memorial Stadium tonight!
“If I’m lucky enough, I’ll understand losing someone close.”
“In life having the upper hand's a myth, your only fighting chance is too stubborn to quit”
Now, where are my cowboy boots?!
Look 👀
The best athletes in the nation throw REAL weights around. They don’t dance around on one foot, or isolate certain muscles, or only do sport specific movements. These coaches, athletes, and trainers know that getting stronger means getting stronger everywhere because it matters!
Nebraska wrestling is the best it’s ever been after 25 years under Coach Manning. It took Tom Osborne 21 years to win it all. Even Hoiberg took 7 years to get into the top 16.
If you have a guy like Rhule that works hard and does things the right way, give him 25 years. The Cignetti turnaround is a statistical anomaly.
👏🏼 Make 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 college season 👏🏼 January 1st to end of April 👏🏼
Wrestlers are so bad at marketing. People want to watch but it will be overshadowed by basketball!
Nebraska high school C-1 final 4 basketball has been an absolute pleasure this year. No metro elite teams, no stacked parochial teams, just 8 teams of small town kids chasing a dream and communities rallying behind them all the way 👏🏼

But who asked the wrestling guy 🤷🏻♂️
There are a few more members of the state champions club in Milford Nebraska tonight. This group of girls is very special, and lead by a great coach that knows how to get it done, along with quality assistants. But most importantly, a few parents (moms) that knew what it was going to take and started building this a decade ago in both volleyball and basketball. It’s paid off. Congrats, girls!
Housing affordability isn’t as big of a problem as people think for starter homes. A lot of young people just have different ideas of what a starter home is.
In 2002, my wife and I were just out of college, she made $22,000/yr and I made $25,000/yr base and we bought our first home for $87,500 with an FHA loan. A 90yr old, 1.5story, 2BR home. Every night after work we tore down wallpaper and painted. Every weekend we landscaped, added some flooring, finished part of the basement, or updated door knobs. It was a great home for us and our two sons for almost 8 years.
Today in the next town over, this house has been on the market for a few weeks at $157,500. The same type of house we started in, and nobody is biting. Young couples are averaging over $100,000/yr in combined income. This house is MORE AFFORDABLE, if you run the ratio. They are making well over double what we did, and the house is less than double.
I don’t blame them for wanting nicer, and I know I sound like the old guy in the room, but the market isn’t much different now, the expectations are.
I tried to raise my sons to be strong, ambitious, savvy opportunity seekers that can go out into the world and not need me anymore. Then they went and looked at investment properties without me yesterday and I’m sad 😂
I’m going to blow your wrestling mind. What if there was no stalling rule in folkstyle? Isn’t it about CONTROL? Don’t let your opponent control you. If you can’t get out it’s on you, do better. If you can’t take him down when you’re losing, it’s on you. He can’t just run away, that would be fleeing, but folkstyle is about control. If you like more action and more rules to create action, switch it all to freestyle.
What would we complain about if we didn’t have stalling rules?!
(I’m not sure I agree with myself here, just raising a point, lol)
There’s a reason why sons and daughters of state champions frequently become champions themselves. Genetics has little to do with it. It’s because parents that have won championships know what it takes. They know the mindset, they know what it takes physically, they know the attitude, they know the training, they know the commitment that it takes. They know about the non-negotiables, they know about the toughness that is required.
Having a coach that knows these things is a great asset, but having a parent that lives these things in their family is more impactful.
There are plenty of kids that win championships without a pedigree, and there are plenty of sons and daughters of champions that don’t make it. But on average the ones that know it and live it in their family, have a much higher percentage of success.
It takes what it takes, and those that know what it takes will instill that in their kids. They manifest success, not excuses.
