Former banking sector type who likes to help people understand the economy a bit better. Feature on @BBCLeicester and @BBCEMT talking all things financial.
Common Question: "Why don't we just nationalise water, energy, rail (etc)?"
Three Reasons.
1️⃣ The govt has to 'buy' the companies outright - VERY high up front cost (billions)
2️⃣ Almost impossible to run them ethically AND profitably.
3️⃣ Not guaranteed prices would come down.
Just spent a weekend in #London.
Things that did *not* happen:
• Was victim of crime
• Felt fearful crime was imminent
• Had dodgy folk eyeing up my 📱
• Feel like I wasn't in 🇬🇧
• Encounter different levels of courtesy I find elsewhere
Don't believe everything you read
The argument many are using that under 18s lack the full mental capacity to vote seems based on a predicate that everyone 18 and over have got it.
Spoiler Alert: They do not.

@Ady_Dayman Alright Andy... Have you seen that berk Dayman off Radio Leicester has put another tweet out? 🙄
Go have a look at it, I'm gonna try think of something funny to put as a reply. Not that he'll get the joke 🤦♂️
@virginmedia No thanks.
Gave my notice, all sorted.
Would have been happy to stay, but the customer service is just so attrocious.
5-9 minutes, as standard, just to get past options and go on hold.
It was TWELVE different menus. 12!!
No thanks. Ciao.
Hey @skytv...
@virginmedia
No broadband for hours.
Roughly the 4th time this month.
Your 'live chat' is AI powered gibberish. Couldn't understand basic sentences.
Phone service took 9 minutes (NINE minutes?!) to go through options, only then to say "We're closed".
Contract up in six weeks.
@virginmedia Service out since yesterday.
You're sending SMS saying it's fixed.
Entire street is down.
I called you today... took 9 mins (again) to just get through options!
Person insisted on updating ALL my details before helping.
Then tried to sell me TNT Sport.
Which I already have.
The thing with price rises in 2025 is we need to distinguish between normal rises and a 'problem'.
Yes, prices are going up. But ALL of the following have gone up EVERY year in the last 25yrs.
Phone bills ☎️
Broadband 🖥
Council Tax 🏠
Car Tax 🚗
Groceries 🛒
Let's not panic.
Pleasure chatting to @Ady_Dayman this AM about price rises for all in 2025.
Can you save money this year?
Yes.
Not by making things cheaper, but rather having a solid understanding of what your outgoings are now and will be.
That difference is the savings you need to find.
When #England hired Brendon McCullum I said he was all fads and gimmicks, not results - I was in a tiny minority.
When he was given overall control of all formats I said it was an awful decision - No-one agreed.
He's turned #Eng 🏏 into a joke.
Get him out! #ChampionsTrophy
Not knocking the club individually. This is absolutely par for the course.
But £40, marketed as a 🏷SALE🚨 price, for a third shirt, that will be out of date in 6 months?
Football doesn't half take its fan base for granted 🙄
@ciarandurham With a massive 'I'm not an expert' disclaimer...
It depends.
Some aircraft have design 'flaws' that exist because the flaw hasn't been recognised by anyone.
Take the Concorde crash. No-one saw non re-enforced fuel tanks as a design flaw until an object flew up and pierced one.
@MyThirdSector Absolutely a mixture of both. Loads of charities simply paying what they can. Nothing elfish or stingy about it.
But also, absolutely loads of charities under paying because they are too hesitant to pay what's owed or see 'the work' as part of the reward, which is dodgy.
@OwynnPA I know £10m is more than a fee. It's wages freed up etc.
And likewise, £100m wouldn't necessarily help. It's not like Mbappe is coming for the right price.
But if the arrival of a £1-2m net profit on expenditure from 18 months ago has been holding up transfers, we're down.
@SkySportsPL At full speed in the moment it's perfectly fair for him to be less than 100% certain that ball wasn't going to hit the inside of the post or maybe even go wide.
From his angle he'd have zero chance of being able to asses the angle.
Absolutely has to hit it in. Every time. #CFC
@Bedfordfoxajb Even if so it would only mark a £1-2m return on investment at most.
If we were running a venture capital firm, a 30% odd return on £5m in 18 months would be fair performance.
It's like the Titanic finding 30% savings on coal after hitting the iceberg.
Pay £5m (likely £6m with fees) to Everton
Give him no chance to play for us
Loan him to offset wages (fine) reducing salary from £2.5m (over 18 months) to probably £1m
Sell to #SUFC for £10m
WITH a 25% sell on clause with #EFC?!?
Net profit = £0 - £500k
Laughable #LCFC
@Lestahman404 First half of last season does **a lot** of heavy lifting in that assertion.
With *comfortably* the strongest squad in the league we scraped over the line.
Make no mistake, if Leeds and Ipswich hadn't gone on a bizarre spring losing streak we'd have been in the play offs. #lcfc
@JasonBourne1986 There also needs to be more acceptance of responsibility from the fan base.
The glory days were incredible but history teaches us relegation was as possible as Top 6.
Too many fans base their rage out of a misguided belief permanent Top 10 status was something we 'threw away'.
