I made this chart mapping VR search queries to key events in the world of VR.
Here are some observations:
1) The peaks are in December (due to people buying and gifting VR devices in the holiday season).
2) 2016 was a BIG year for VR. Public interest 4X-ed, thanks to the release of Samsung Gear VR (for phones), Rift, Vive and PSVR. Dec'16 saw the highest peak in global VR interest.
3) The Oculus Quest wasn't a big game changer as I thought it would be in the grand scheme of things (I expected it to cause a giant peak).
4) Jan 2018 to October 2021 was a dull period for VR, with public interest dying down almost by half, despite the major breakthroughs in VR tech.
I hope this would be useful data for investors, VR creators, entrepreneurs and journalists alike.
Would be cool to know if VR veterans like @josethevrtech, @benz145, @VirtuosoCEO etc. agree with my observations?

Today weβre introducing SceneScript, a novel method for reconstructing environments and representing the layout of physical spaces from @RealityLabs Research.
Details β‘οΈ https://t.co/1zErU9WT9t
SceneScript is able to directly infer a roomβs geometry using end-to-end machine learning and represent it using language. Compared to previous approaches, this results in representations of physical scenes that are compact, complete, interpretable and extensible.

Zuckerberg reveals that Meta is working on a MIND CONTROL device that lets you talk with AI without typing or speaking...but just THINKING about it.
It's going to be used with AR glasses like the Meta Raybans. It will be released in a few years.
Our VR newsletter @Spatial_Edition has crossed 500 subscribers.
Thank you for all the love and support.
I'm really proud of the quality of our subscribers. We have so many CEOs, founders, C-level execs, developers, VR creators, and employees from top tech companies.
You're right. The Rundown AI has 400k+ subscribers but still uses a mail.beehiiv address.
However, one major reason is that most people start their newsletter with beehiiv's free plan, and once they grow big, they'll try to make the switch to a custom domain.
The moment they do that, their open rates tank drastically. Now they have to email their 100k audience to check their spam, then move the new domain email to primary. Most people won't do that and it's all a big mess. So they just continue with their old beehiiv email.
Mindvalley has just launched their own Apple Vision Pro app.
@mindvalley is one of the world's biggest self-help education platforms with over 20 million students.
@SyrslyWasTaken Definitely a better term than mind control, but the industry is mostly still using the term mind control. Maybe because it sounds more cooler?
@waterdoggie I get it. Mind control sounds like you're controlling someone else's mind but here, we're talking about controlling devices with your mind. "Mind control" is the usual term used for this kind of tech, but it is frustrating that we have to use the same words for both.
@zsqreal Eye tracking is not a neural interface. The sensors track your eye movement, and the best you can do is select stuff. What Mark's talking about is a way to TALK to your devices, like asking detailed questions without typing but just thinking about it.
