One year ago today, I was elected as an MLA.
While this government spends its time on its own priorities, it has been an honour and a privilege to serve Albertans in the legislature, fighting for what actually matters to you.
Thank you to the people of Edmonton-Strathcona for putting their faith in me.
Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day. Today is a day for celebrating but also to remember our responsibility and obligations to each other and to Treaty.
This is a chance for all of us, Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, to come together and recommit to building a better future together.
As the Alberta separation movement spreads misinformation about Indigenous rights, Dr. Bruce McIvor, lawyer and treaty expert, had a message for those hearing these claims:
โYou can push back on that. The biggest lie being perpetuated is that First Nations surrendered their land. Thatโs a lie, lie, huge lie,โ he said at the Blackfoot Confderacy Treaty Unity gathering in Calgary on Sunday.
Dr. Bruce McIvor is a partner at First Peoples Law LLP, where he represents Indigenous Peoples across Canada in both litigation and negotiation. He is widely regarded as one of Canadaโs foremost practitioners of Aboriginal law.

Carney admits on tape: When voters blocked his ESG plans, "We" Central Bankers acted like "Regulators" going around the voters through the BACK DOOR!
Manipulating fossil fuel prices by withholding lending.

Elections should be decided by the public, not the government. Today, the UCP made it clear theyโre willing to cheat to stay in power, completely undermining our democracy.
Oh look thereโs that unity that they want for all of Canada except, thatโs right, Alberta again gets shafted and they wonder why Alberta wants to separate.
NDP MP Leah Gazan stands in solidarity with Elizabeth May and the Bloc Quรฉbรฉcois to oppose further pipeline development.
"We are in a climate emergency," she said.
"People are dying because of a failure of the Liberal government to protect the local environment."
In case you didn't know.
After getting 61.7% support on the 2021 referendum for removing equalization from the constitution, this is what Premier Jason Kenney did.
First, he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asking for a meeting about the results.
The response was "No."
Next, he wrote a letter to the First Ministers asking for a meeting about the results.
The response was "No."
Finally, Kenney gave up.
This is the leadership that Kenney offered to Albertans who trusted him.
Now he's asking us to "Lead, not Leave" when the truth is Albertans cannot fix the Canadian system. We have tried. It's time we "Lead, and Leave."
Just warning separatists weasels now, if you are expecting the rest of us to be gracious when your referendum fails, think again.
A no vote is a vote for separatists to fuck off and shut up forever.
This WILL be enforced with mockery and contempt.
I keep hearing from Alberta separatists that the status quo is unacceptable and nothing ever changes in Canada. Well look at this bumper sticker that was prominent in the early 2000s. All of them are gone.
I find I funny that you have a Ukrainian flag in your post and donโt support the right to have a referendum in alberta about separating from Canada. You know that is how Ukrainian came to be, right?
Your periodic reminder that separatists have been contesting federal & provincial elections in Alberta for 50 years, typically getting 1% to 2% of the vote.
Iโve told separatists for years that Alberta wonโt be strengthened by making empty threats to leave.
But here we are in a pointless, deeply divisive debate for months to come. What a shame.
BREAKING: Treaty 8 Grand Chief Trevor Mercredi said at a press conference Thursday that the government is โignoring the courtsโ and called the UCP โlawlessโ for proceeding.
Mercredi warned that civil disobedience, including blocking highways and stopping industry, remains on the table if the referendum moves forward without meaningful consultation.
Hey! Just got back from Calgary where virtually every person I spoke to was dead against separation or any kind of ballot question in October. The entire thing is a farce. #DanielleSmithisaliar
I need to talk about my neighbors because I have been holding this in for too long.
They had a birthday party this weekend. For one of their kids. In their backyard.
I counted six children and two adults. There were balloons. There was a cake on a folding table. It lasted maybe two hours in the middle of the afternoon.
And I am sorry but who is going to tell people that you cannot just do this.
The noise. Six children making the sound that six children make. For two hours. On a Saturday. I had things I wanted to do in my own home and instead I had to listen to a party I was not invited to and would not have attended anyway.
The cars. Two extra cars parked on the street near my house. On the public street, yes, but near my house, which means in front of the area I consider to be my general zone.
And the balloons. One of them came loose and drifted into my yard and I had to be the one to deal with a stray balloon on my own property because of a party that had nothing to do with me.
They did not warn me. No note, no heads up, no hey we are having a small thing on Saturday. They just decided to have a celebration in a yard that shares a fence with mine and let me find out about it by hearing it.
If you are going to host an event, even a small one, the neighbors should be consulted. We share an environment. My Saturday is part of that environment and they spent it without asking.
I am aware some people will say it was just a kids birthday party. To those people I would say it is never just anything when it affects the people around you.
Nice try. We didnโt have the housing shortage we now face. If Trudeau and Carney didnโt allow so many refugees we still wouldnโt have such a crisis.
๐ฅ Ten years later, our country is still battling to overcome the crushing housing BACKLOG created by Pierre Poilievre when he was in charge of the housing portfolio, under Harper.
That's how bad it was.
That guy built just 6 houses the entire time he was in charge. SIX!! ๐ซด๐ผ6โฃ
A record-breaking feat of ministerial incompetence! ๐
Fortunately, we now have Prime Minister Carney enthusiastically tackling the issue once and for all.
Cleaning up Pierre's mess, with ingenuity, technology and CANADIAN-SOURCED building materials. โ ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
