I don't know how universal this is (UK) but at school we did not read extended non-fiction. It was not an expectation and it was not normalised. Literacy almost exclusively meant reading novels; subject research meant going on the computer. There wasn't really an intermediary

@vanessakayague Indeed. A snobbish sentiment of mine is that 'free' music and such can only really be appreciated in person for its the idiom most dictated by audience, by a fleeting glance or furtive yawn. It's music made for eyes, sculpting in sound.

Not about anything in particular but you really should be "over" shipping culture by 18, it should be more of a taboo. Many promising young women stunt their growth after getting sucked into Tumblr/AO3 as teenagers, they simply never learn about narrative on any other level
