a reminder: the Republican Party wanted to throw out votes of military service members in order to hand an election over to their buddy Jefferson Griffin. That’s not lawful, it’s illegal! And we’re glad a federal judge confirmed it.
Today marks 6 months since voters spoke out and elected me to keep my seat - but it has also been 6 months of uncertainty and damage to faith in our electoral system. North Carolina voters deserve better, and I'm no less committed now than I was 6 months ago to fighting for every lawful vote.
Reminder: Jefferson Griffin and @NCGOP have never had a real case. They lost on November 5th.
They have pursued this bogus lawsuit since day 1 in pure bad faith. They have pursued a "throw spaghetti at the wall" legal strategy, offering preposterous and transparently nonsensical arguments in their attempt to overturn an election that they lost. This was never about the law - it was about flexing raw, partisan extralegal power.
Griffin and @NCGOP were betting that, if they could get this case to the NC Supreme Court, their co-partisan conspirators would be willing to nullify an election and deny the voters their choice: @AllisonJRiggs. And it turns out, they were right about that.
What the Riggs v. Griffin saga has demonstrated in sharp public relief is that North Carolina no longer has two political parties who are fundamentally committed to the rule of law. This will not be the last election @NCGOP tries to overturn, after losing, through bad-faith lawfare. As long as corrupt judges are willing to place their partisan loyalty before their faithful application of the law, post-election lawfare is more likely than not to become a new feature of North Carolina politics. We are all poorer for it.
BREAKING: U.S. District Court Judge Richard Myers orders the NC State Board of Elections to certify a 734-vote win for Democratic Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs and rejects all of Griffin's election protests. Judge stays order for one week so Griffin may appeal. #ncpol
Jefferson Griffin lost. When you lose, you work harder the next time to win. You do not try to change the rules after the election is over. Today’s Court of Appeals decision about the Board of Elections poses a threat to our democracy and the rule of law. The Supreme Court should not allow it to stand.
I fear that this decision is the latest step in the partisan effort to steal a seat on the Supreme Court. No emergency exists that can justify the Court of Appeals’ decision to interject itself at this point. The only plausible explanation is to permit the Republican State Auditor to appoint a new State Board of Elections that will try to overturn the results of the Supreme Court race.
Striking language just now from appeals court, rejecting Justice Dept argument to pause court order in Kilmar Abrego Garcia case:
"It is difficult in some cases to get to the very heart of the matter. But in this case, it is not hard at all. The government is asserting a right to stash away residents of this country in foreign prisons without the semblance of due process that is the foundation of our constitutional order"

We really did it.
We took a growing US manufacturing economy, declared it broken, started a trade war, and ... broke US manufacturing.
In last 48 hours:
- Philly Fed Survey: "New orders fell sharply, from 8.7 in March to -34.2, its lowest reading since April 2020"
- NY Fed Survey: Expected orders and shipments plunging
Again, this is a policy to revive US manufacturing.
I've seen enough: Democratic Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs has just won, provided NCSBE interpretation of NC Court of Appeals ruling holds. Math is no longer there for Griffin to overcome 734-vote deficit. Still need court confirmation before 100% calling. #ncpol
Today is a dark day for our courts and our state. The North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that certain active duty military voters serving our nation must jump through hoops that other voters don’t. All voters have a constitutional right to be treated equally under the law — it is foundational to our democracy. It’s unconscionable, and this decision cannot stand.
Blistering dissents tonight, as the NC Supreme Court votes 4-2 in Jefferson Griffin's favor to throw out ballots by overseas voters.
One dissent (by a Democrat) calls it "a bloodless coup." The other dissent (by a Republican) calls it "judicial tampering in election results"
Allison Riggs won the election for NC Supreme Court. Changing the rules after the election to throw out the votes of tens of thousands of North Carolinians who followed all of the rules is a travesty. Jefferson Griffin’s neverending legal assault is undermining people’s faith in elections and the courts. He lost and should concede.
1/ What we are seeing right now in Gaza -- masked gunmen surrounding hostages as they are released, civilians jeering and taunting innocent women who were kidnapped and tortured -- demonstrates the utter depravity and sheer evil of Hamas and their supporters for the world to see.
@coreyzinho@TAshleyIC I mean, the price tag is the extra $5M a year in coach salary and the extra $16M a year in NIL lol. But we’ll take some earned media too
