This was the state's last witness in the Karmelo Anthony murder trial. It's the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy.
Chief Medical Examiner for Collin County, Dr. Elizabeth Ventura. Says she’s done thousands of autopsies and does internal and external examination, sectioning off organs. This came in as a suspected homicide, requiring a more in-depth autopsy. She performed Austin’s autopsy the day after his death. He was 213 lbs and 73 inches.. Which is 6’ 1.” His body was received in a hospital gown, hands and feet were covered in bags.
He had a stab wound on the left side of chest. It penetrated the heart. The heart was removed, and the stab wound gave a measurement of 2 inches gapping in length. The classification is “gapping” because it broke the fibrous tissue and pulled it apart instead of a slit. The path of the wound went completely through the heart.
They are showing four pictures to just the jury. They are a stab wound to the chest, a close-up image of the gapping oval-shaped wound, the last two are of the heart after it was removed. Several jurors look emotional and are putting a hand over their mouths.
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “Is the wound survivable?”
Witness: “No.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “Did you find signs of internal bleeding?”
Witness: “Yes.”
The prosecutor is showing a duplicate of the knife used in the stabbing.
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “Is a knife like this considered a deadly weapon in Texas?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “What is the cause and manner of death.”
Witness: “The result of a stab wound to the chest. The manner is homicide.”
Defense attorney Toby Shook: “In the report and in the drawing, you list the wound as being obliquely oriented.”
Witness: “Yes. It’s giving a description the wound was at an angle.”
Defense attorney Toby Shook: “Closer to horizontal?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Defense attorney Toby Shook: “An exact depth of 2 ½ inches.”
Witness: “Yes.”
Defense attorney Toby Shook: “Do you have a way of establishing force used?”
Witness: “No.”
Shook is approaching the medical examiner.
Defense attorney Toby Shook: “Would it be consistent if the victim was standing over the person stabbing, let’s say in a bleacher?”
Witness: “It can cause the angle going from front to back. There are many possibilities because the body is in constant motion. That can be consistent.”
The prosecutor says there’s a lot of danger in reenactments like the defense just did.
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “It’s easy to construct a finding that fits what you want.”
Witness: “Yes.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “I don’t want the jury to think Austin Metcalf impaled himself on Karmelo Anthony’s knife. It’s just probable, right?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “It’s dangerous to make those kinds of assumptions?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “The impaling is one of hundreds or thousands of things that could happen?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “Can you explain what a defensive wound is?”
Witness: “Typically it’s on their hands or forearms.”
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye: “Did you find any defensive wounds on Austin Melcalfe?
Witness: “No.”

🚨REPORT🚨
I’m outside of the criminal courthouse for Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial.
We heard from several witnesses today that stated Karmelo Anthony was the aggressor—not Austin Metcalf.
On witness says Karmelo said, “F you all. I’m not going to leave. You’re all a bunch of pussies,” moments before the stabbing.
@TheWrightTackle@Lestatd87312933@douglassmackey The problem is Austin did not beat the shit out of Karmelo. You don’t kill people for a push in Texas, in particular when you are the one who took a knife to a school event, entered another team’s tent, refused to leave, and provoked other people.
@TheWrightTackle@douglassmackey No matter how hard u spin, the fact is Karmelo took a 15-inch knife to a school event, entered another team’s tent that served as their safe space, was told to leave 15 times but refused to , and provoked other people; and when he faced a medium shove, he stabbed Austin to death
