@modernistestate Is no part of the original MoL scheme protected? I was looking at the garden in front of it recently, the one in the middle of the traffic island. It struck me as both lovely and very much of its time in scale and approach. It’s a lovely antidote to much of what’s nearby.
@PlanningShit If you ask kids to draw cars you’d end up with a bankrupt motor manufacturer. The house-building industry can only get away with this because, unlike with cars, it isn’t a genuinely competitive market. Too much of the time the build quality is as careless as the design.
@PlanningShit I think this image is post-war when materials like timber were scarce. But height is as significant as material. I grew up with a back garden that had a short timber fence and a similar sense of openness and connection to neighbours. This gave way to height and OTT containment.
