@SBakerMD I used to mainline steak and eggs into my carotids every morning. It made me squirt geysers of diarrhea into your momโs face for days on end. 9 months later, you arrived, a blessing from God.
Happy birthday son.
@EdLatimore One last thing I will say is that nuance is extremely important in medicine. Misinterpreting data has dire consequences, especially for the sick.
People who may have familial hypercholesterolemia (ie. a genetic mutation), should pay great attention to their LDL levels.
@EdLatimore If interested these are two better quality studies that better control for confounders and actually tracked LDL levels over time 2/2:-

@EdLatimore These studies are not meant to tell you if a certain blood result will help you live longer, theyโre a jumping off point that scientists use for generating a hypothesis for better quality studies like RCTs and systematic reviews and meta analyses.
@EdLatimore Their research question was likely this:
Among adults in the Swedish AMORIS cohort, do mid/late-life blood biomarkers predict the chance of reaching age 100?
They tried to prove whether there was an association or correlation, rather than causation.
@EdLatimore My friend, the studies to prove if something leads to something or otherwise are conducted using the same method.
Your original claim was that the single biggest indicator for making it to 100 was high LDL. Which is also incorrect.
@EdLatimore Did you read the study? Please tell me honestly, because the authors themselves disclose as part of their limitations that they didnโt look at that outcome.
@EdLatimore The second study is also retrospective. And it didnโt even look at LDLโit looked at total cholesterol, again only using a single measurement. If you want the truth, quote people who interpret these studies for a living. 5/5
@EdLatimore And instead of cardiovascular mortality, they looked at all-cause mortality. So cancer, dementia, even accidents were lumped in. Associating LDL with those deaths is nonsense from the start. 4/5
