@AAR_FreightRail reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 6, 2026 as:
521,804 carloads and intermodal units, up 7.8% from the same week last year.
228,076 carloads, +1% from the same week in 2025, 293,728 containers and trailers, up 13.6% compared to 2025.
#dieselpricing fell again the week ending June 8, 2026, with a national average dropping to $5.210, 14 cents/gallon lower than the previous week. All regions in the U.S. saw price decreases, with the largest decrease in the Midwest, which had a 21 cents/gallon decrease.
The @AAR_FreightRail today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 30, 2026 was 492,795 carloads and intermodal units, up 7.2 percent compared with the same week last year.
#dieselpricing dropped by 17.3 cents/gallon with a national averaged of $5.350/gallon. All regions of the U.S. saw weekly decreases, with the most significant drop in the Midwest - a 23.1 cents/gallon decrease.
Monthly capacity numbers from DAT Trendlines show about a 7% increase in spot truckload load posts in May over April 2026 and a year-over-year change of 64.9%. Spot truck posts decreased both from last month and last year.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 20, 2026 – The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 16, 2026.
For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 511,216 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.2 percent year over year.
DAT Trendlines reported today that all equipment availability on the spot market tightened for the week ending May 17, with reefer spot load-to-truck ratios jumping by 65.3%. Contributing to the squeeze would be the downward supply of trucks during a peak produce season,
#dieselpricing fell the week ending 5-11-26. All regions dropped in price except for the Midwest with a 7.3 cents/gal uptick. The national average was $5.639, flat from the previous week. The W. Coast, less California, dropped 9.5 cents/gal. California had a dip of 3.9 cents/gal.
DAT Trendlines report on spot market trucking capacity for the week ending May 10, showed dry van and reefer spot load-to-truck ratios increasing by 4.6 and 12.3% respectively. Flatbed was relatively flat.

The S&P Global US Manufacturing PMI was revised upward to 54.5 in April 2026, from a preliminary estimate of 54.0 and above March’s 52.3, indicating the strongest expansion in the manufacturing sector since May 2022. New orders increased at the fastest pace in four years.
