I had some of the country’s most progressive young dairy farmers in my office in the @Europarl_EN in Brussels today - telling me they would lose dozens of cows in their herds if the nitrates derogation is not retained. This cannot be allowed to happen. We will bring their stories to @JessikaRoswall @EU_Commission next week to seek urgent clarity on the derogation . John has 75% calved and 20% of the milking platform grazed to date

Mixture if jobs completed with @John61806159 today. John has dairy washings/slurry out so far on the MP. Soil temp today was 7.9deg, starting to see good regrowth on grazed paddocks

Went through @HerdPlus to select beef bulls,sexed straws already in the tank. Prep is key!

Last years multi species reseed in @John61806159 today. Good content of chicory, plantain and white clover. Grazed 7 times so far this year and grown 9.95 tonDM/ha so far with only 74kgs chemical N/ha for the year

Latest reseed put in on the 11th May on the farm of @John61806159 in Gortnahoe, Tipperary. 3kgs white clover put in the mix.

➡️clover reduces dependence on chemical N from May/June onwards
➡️less chem N means a long term €€ saving
➡️reduce chem N a help in ⬇️GHG emissions

This weeks Teagasc’s Tirlan Future Farm farm update. Last week milk yields had fallen but recovery is on the way. Cows were unsettled with the heavy rain. Grass is the focus, getting silage done, surplus removed from MP

This weeks @TeagascSignpost @TirlanFarmLife monitor farm update. Calving is going very well, grazing is variable! In the last 2 days a lot of herds are now out grazing day and night but protein % is not reflecting that yet.

Soil temp at 6.5 yesterday with @John61806159 The paddocks grazed end Jan/early Feb had 500/600 kgs DM/ha back on them. Despite poor weather conditions some paddocks getting well grazing. Yes the weather helps here but so does good grass allocation, good access, plenty of gaps

Both @John61806159 & I were surprised at how good some of his ground was after Monday nights rain. With 28% grazed John is grazing by day at the moment.
Latest AFC is over 1103kgs DM/ha, growth of 31kgs DM/ha since last walk 2-3 weeks ago. Plan next is to get fertiliser out
