The article argues that rising militarism, economic nationalism, attacks on democratic institutions, and the cult of political leadership under Donald Trump are weakening the foundations of American democracy. Feffer warns that the erosion of public trust, widening inequality, and massive debt could make future recovery increasingly difficult. At the same time, he argues that large-scale democratic reform, public investment, and international cooperation could still prevent a deeper social and economic crisis.
