A song that initially stalled outside the Top 40 became Longpigs’ biggest hit when it was given a second chance. “She Said” was first released in 1995 but returned the following year after the Sheffield band’s profile had grown, this time reaching No. 16 in the UK. The track appeared on their 1996 debut album The Sun Is Often Out, produced by Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Quarmby, with Richard Hawley’s distinctive guitar work running through the record. This live performance on Chris Evans’ TFI Friday caught Longpigs during their breakthrough year, when “She Said” was finally receiving the attention it had missed first time around.
A distorted vocal, an instantly recognisable bassline and sudden bursts of guitar noise turned “Cannonball” into The Breeders’ breakthrough hit. Kim Deal even sang through a harmonica microphone to create the strange vocal sound heard on the recording. The track came from their 1993 second album Last Splash, produced by Deal and Mark Freegard, and its success helped push the album to platinum status in the US. Its memorable video was co-directed by Kim Gordon and Spike Jonze. At Pinkpop on 23 May 1994, “Cannonball” captured The Breeders at the height of their breakthrough, just months before they joined that summer’s Lollapalooza tour.
A look back to what happened on this day in QPR history with games against Southampton, Wolves & Barnsley plus an Adel Taarabt masterclass in his first game as QPR Captain against Scunthorpe. #QPR https://t.co/AFxTTf3M66
The feeling of anxiety doesn't diminish as the years past, but I'm proud that we are back for our (gulp!) 40th consecutive season of producing AKUTR's. Issue 405 is out for Bolton tomorrow, and it's a packed 64-page edition, a mix of preview and review, and much more besides.
Loads of people are saying: "Football is back this weekend".
But the Football League has been in full swing for a week and our Non-League competitions started three weeks ago. There is more to football than just Premier League.
This very Sunday ~ 16th of August of 1987~ was the 1st day of a world without #TheSmiths and a New World of #Morrissey solo. Auditions for another Marr failed on Saturday, Moz went to see The Primitives @ ICA, then ran home to Ma-nchester. On Tuesday he wrote to @StreetStephen…
Since Thames Water introduced a hosepipe ban 17 days ago they have now leaked 9,921,459,817 litres of water from their badly maintained, underinvested, cracked old network of pipes.

Cape Verde was a great story. Truly great. But 2 weeks after, football doesn't give a fuck, less so after 1, 2 or 4 years.
If Mauritius, Mozambique, Mali do the same, great, but for 99% of fans, 99% of the time, across the world, nobody cares.
If France, Italy, Germany, England, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal boycott a World Cup, it's automatically invalid. It's just the truth.
Likewise, a club World Cup without any of Europe's top 25 clubs is invalid. Nobody is watching Inter Miami v Boca Juniors except in markets that simply don't generate revenue or global interest.
UEFA should immediately take over global law making ( UEFA replace FIFA 4 votes in a new IFAB with the 4 home nations continuing holding the other 4 votes).
Europe has paid football's bills for 150 years. It does not need to vote for a man in an island of 100,000 to hold the game to random because FIFA are giving him 20 mil.
I'm half English, half Barbadian. One has paid its football dues, the other hasn't, so the other cannot and must not hold the balance of power.
When two thirds of football nations fill their stadiums, support grassroots football, create a pyramid, have women's teams, find kids, then their vote is equal to a European powerhouse.
Not a day before.
Time for UEFA to secede from FIFA
FIFA needs UEFA. UEFA doesn't need FIFA.
A reminder of when Stan Bowles played one of the most pleasing outside of the boot passes you’ll ever see... only for poor Peter Eastoe to flub the finish.
Wand of a left peg, Stan.

Few Top of the Pops performances were as unpredictable as Inspiral Carpets' rendition of "I Want You" in 1994. Featured on the album Devil Hopping, the single paired Tom Hingley with Mark E. Smith of The Fall, whose unmistakable spoken-word delivery gave the song its unique edge. The appearance is especially memorable as it marked the only time Mark E. Smith ever performed on Top of the Pops, creating one of the programme's most unforgettable moments.
