Royal School in Trouble- Gordonstoun School in Financial Problems with £2,889,254 bailout from linked charity. Parents concerned for future of pupils. Head of Finance departs. #Gordonstoun#ISShow17#privateschool#charity
@Ross_Greer I do truly believe this is a worthwhile determined drive to end the subsidies. #gordonstoun school claims millions in subsidies https://t.co/pqt2VPkTn7
Ending the private school tax loophole is welcome and long overdue. Greens have called for this over many years, as have many others including @kezdugdale. https://t.co/NZqBBcLw9N #ScotBudget#LeadingTheChange
Private schools in Scotland lose their charitable status & tax relief. Why should the vast majority of Scots subsidise privilege? 4% of Scottish school aged pupils privately educated & less than 10% of Scots support their continued charitable status. #ScotBudget
@donaldlegget @Colinclayton59 @gordonstoun This is unlikely to appear in the newspaper, as been done very quietly, to not spook donor/parents. School is loosing over £1mln per year
@mwgbanks @gordonstoun It actually relies on mostly British money not overseas money. Majority are uk students, plus government subsidies, both direct/indirect.
Taxpayer money is being given indirectly through:
Business Rate exemption up to 100% (£189,912 per annum)
Capital gains tax exemption (disposed of Aberlour House (would have paid £400,000 in tax)
VAT exemption for charging for their services (£2,899,850.60 per annum) #charity
@MrMalky @gordonstoun@georgegalloway When Scotland becomes and independent country, then Scotland will be responsible for paying these revenues. It may already be paying these? @NicolaSturgeon
@MrMalky @gordonstoun@georgegalloway@HMRCgovuk also refused to disclose through FOI request, revenues for Gordonstoun specifically from this public funding and Scottish public schools generally.
@MrMalky @gordonstoun@georgegalloway They also receive direct subsidy from the government through the giftaid mechanism. I have no idea how much they receive as this is not disclosed in their accounts.
