Thousands of protests. 45 arrests. 33 years in Congress. Sometimes change calls for a little trouble. John Lewis: Good Trouble comes to theaters and on demand July 3rd. #JohnLewisIsGoodTrouble
John Lewis taught us that when we see something that is not right, not just, not fair, we have to do something. He taught us not to lose hope—that this is the struggle of many lifetimes. He taught us to get in #GoodTrouble.
One year already. We miss you.
Last year a nation lost a leader, hero, and activist in John Lewis. Every single day I find myself missing my mentor and friend, and will forever pull inspiration from his towering legacy.
A year ago today, we lost Congressman John Lewis. As we celebrate the king of good trouble—his legacy of perseverance; his ability to find moments of joy and lightness in the midst of real struggle—we should also recommit ourselves to building the future he envisioned.
A year ago we lost a national hero, and I lost a friend and parishioner. John Lewis spent his life fighting to ensure our country lived up to its founding creed, and I’m so honored for the opportunity to carry on his legacy.
60 years ago, the original 13 Freedom Riders, including civil rights giant John Lewis, got on buses in D.C. and headed south to protest Jim Crow.
As we commemorate their fight against racism and segregation, we remember that the fight for equality continues.
It takes true courage to stand up for what is right, even in the face of danger. In 1961, the 13 original Freedom Riders - including John Lewis - set forth to challenge and change the nation’s segregation laws.
60 years ago, 13 Freedom Riders—including my parishioner John Lewis—started on a historic bus ride to challenge the segregated South, but were attacked along the way.
Today, let's remember their commitment to equality as we work to honor their sacrifices in our public policy.
1/ Civil Rights hero @repjohnlewis spent his life fighting for racial justice and voting rights. Inspired by @johnlewisdoc, last year we set out to educate audiences about voter suppression and empower disenfranchised communities to fully participate in our democracy.
“I say to people today, 'You must be prepared if you believe in something. If you believe in something, you have to go for it. As individuals, we may not live to see the end.'” Happy birthday, Congressman Lewis. Your legacy will never be forgotten. #GoodTrouble#BlackHistoryMonth
