At the ongoing #UNGA, President Trump today made a bold statement about the huge deposits of oil in Europe, particularly around the North Sea. Interestingly, he questioned why the oil in that location remains largely unexplored due to the high tax levies imposed on investors.

especially those investors in the oil and gas sector, should be held accountable to pay for the damage through an expanded tax levy that covers all the harms they cause.

As an advocate for carbon tax, one thing I have debate about is true tax justice. My stance is that those who cause environmental degradation, pollute the air with harmful gases that threaten our health and reduce agricultural output (threateners of macroeconomics objectives),

2. Could it be that the tax component for North Sea oil includes the cost of carbon emissions and environmental degradation, hence the high tax levies?
I would really like to know because if the second point is true, then Africa needs to review its tax policies for the oil sector

1. Why is North Sea oil so highly taxed to the point where investors are avoiding the region despite its massive oil reserves, while they scramble for oil fields across Asia and Africa?
