@anannabananacan What you seem to be asking for is for the State to charge a crime immediately, without having all of the information or to release someone who may now be a danger to the community or a flight risk.

It’s not always a bad thing to have an allowable holding period, especially for such a heinous crime. It’s the time for the State to process and charge crimes. I’ll agree it’s dumb for low level crimes though.

@anannabananacan So it seems like a good idea to give the State a little time to figure it out. The 72 hour mark is extremely common throughout the country and yes it is written in the rules to exclude time in certain situations including when one of those days is a holiday.

@anannabananacan The alternative is the State charging without having all the information they need. They must be certain before making charging decisions and that doesn’t happen immediately. Once they charge the crime, that persons life changes forever.
